Any of you Minnesotans get to see the aurora borealis?

Not recently, but I am in the right place at the right time on occasion.  It's awe-inspiring.  SJU is actually a great place to see them from.

A tradition unrivaled...

Sure you weren't just belly up on the sidewalk looking at blurry christmas lights after another "non-dry campus" kegger?

A few of you that have been around a while may recognize Tom. :)

Great ad and very true. Nice gig for the old QB.

It hits on two of the key things about Alaska: Great salmon and great bars. Kodiak is an amazing place.

MIAC Mentions From Triple Take:

Game of the Week
Pat's take: No. 7 Bethel at No. 15 Wartburg.
I feel like the Midwest guy saying this but I do feel like this is one of the best games of the week and for me, at least, worth the six-hour round trip. After seeing how Wartburg manhandled Augsburg last week, a middle-of-the-pack team in Bethel's conference, I'm interested to see how they stack up here. Wartburg has that advantage from this being its second game of the season and that's big. Also, Bethel graduated a ton of receiving prowess and that helped the program make a jump into the next tier, at least in my opinion. They have been more multi-dimensional the past couple of years. Erik Peterson's season ended early last season as well because of injury and in his return, will be facing a defensive front that knows how to get to the quarterback. Prime for an upset, although I don't generally include games between ranked teams as upset picks or teams most likely to lose.

Most likely top 25 team to lose
Ryan: No. 11 St. Thomas. UW-La Crosse is but a shadow of the conference-contending team it fielded a decade or so ago, but the Eagles are also good for an upset here and there, and they maintain themselves as competitive in many of their majors outings.
Pat: No. 11 St. Thomas. I'll probably get a phone call or a text or get pulled aside after a game to be asked about this but in the first game so far, St. Thomas had to hold on at the end to beat UW-Eau Claire, and we think UW-La Crosse is another step up the WIAC ladder. Meanwhile, UW-L had a nice first week. UST is a defensive-oriented team at the moment, at least until the offense catches up, and a low-scoring game keeps UW-L in it longer.

They'll be on your radar
Ryan: Augsburg. I don't believe that the 40-3 loss that they were dealt in Week 1 represents the kind of team Augsburg really is. I expect the Auggies to bounce back this week against Concordia (Wis.). And if they don't, well, the MIAC is right around the corner and it isn't a forgiving place.

Sounds like the MIAC has the potential to prove something this week! Let's Do This ...

I would go to Uno's-29 E. Ohio.
They have a great deep dish.
Or Giordano's equally good.

Thanks!

Lou Malnati's Chicago - Gold Coast
1120 North State Street (at State & Rush), Chicago, IL 60610

Pretty good pie also...you can't go wrong with the other choices either...

These are all good choices, altho not really "close" to Millenium Park.  I think there is a Lou Malnati's in the Loop, south of the River.

I'd recommend Bacino's, on Wacker Drive, for "close to Millenium Park",  they make a good thin crust pizza, and have other stuff on the menu. Nice setting right along the river too.  Also, the Italian Village is a Chicago icon, on W. Adams St., and while the dinner menu can be pricey, the pizza is not.  Would not be a bad place to go, also pretty close to Millenium.

And then, depending on the time you're going out, there is nothing more "Chicago" then stopping at the Berghoff on W. Adams.  The best German food around, 100 year old bar, etc.  Also a classic. http://www.theberghoff.com/berghoff-restaurant/

And Miller's Pub, on S.  Wabash next door to the Palmer House, another "old school" restaurant and bar, great ribs.

Duff, it's really disappointing to hear how behind the 8 ball the SJU administration has been on this matter. Forget about being a decade behind video feed of games, what kind of non-dry campus doesn't have this minor?!?

Seriously though, to dip into offseason topics for a moment. Had a glass of Boulevard's Rye on Rye a few weeks back. Wow, incredibly rich flavor! Boulevard is a definite perk of living down in KC...along with Oklahoma Joe's BBQ of course!

Back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Ditto. Many nights at SJU coming home after late night study (ahem) sessions, would be prime time for the northern lights. The lack of ambient light, the right time of night, and the proper frame of mind, left many of us on our backs on the lawn staring up and watching the show.

Speaking of which, I happened upon one of their small-batch offerings Wednesday night...a special tapping keg of Parley Lake Vineyard red wine barrel aged Expat. It just might go down as one of the best beers I have ever tasted. and that's something. If you can find it, drink it.

Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.
