So is it official, did he set a record yesterday.  I would expect all kinds of Honors for the week.

I'm hoping the Vikings are absolutely terrible this year--but only because I am a cheapskate.
My fiancee wants to go to a game this year, and I'm hoping a string of dismal performances will drive the market price for tickets down to a level where I can buy seats in the lower bowl for less than $50/per ticket.

A few more performances like today and I feel the spirit of Vikings fans will be crushed. :)

Great news, Vikings fans!  Rumors are that Ziggy will trade AP away.

I am so glad I went to SJU.  If not for the Johnnies I may have already given up gridiron.

Nice quotes Finsleft in the paper. Who the hell doesn't have homecoming?

When I'm wrong I'm wrong.  With some of the personnel they had coming back, and a couple nice transfers, I thought Bethel was going to be a powerhouse.  They will still be a factor in the MIAC race, but apparently not making a deep playoff run.

The SJU/Concordia game will be interesting this weekend, and will help one of those teams out in the conference race.

I felt like the defense performed pretty well...4 turnovers, and considering that the offense punted 9 times, they were really asked to be on the field for too long.

As suspected, with all of the new WR's the offense did not have its act together yet, which had a lot ot do with the fact they they were playing a tough team that already had a game under its belt.  What surprised me more was the lack of a run game.  I figured that since they returned the majority of the o-line, and all of their running backs, they'd be toughter there.

Hopefully, they can find a rhythm over the next couple of weeks vs. Olaf and Carleton.  Then, we'll find out whether they're going to contend for the MIAC or not vs. Concordia.

I do not think that Bethel has a slam-dunk in this season opener. If they get behind and have to play catch up they could come away with a loss - but would it be a surprise? Many will be disappointed, but not surprised.

Hope I don't get nicked because  I quoted myself, but here goes...

Early in the week I found out I would be out of town this weekend (Tucson, AZ) and not near a computer to watch the game, and totally out of touch with D3 football in general, but when I was able to finally log on and check out what was happening later in the evening - wait for it - "I was disappointed". Sounds like it was a good first half going into the locker room ahead 7 to 3, but then the wheels fell off. I've not an inkling of what's going on on the field, as all I saw was the highlight reel posted on Bethel's website: http://athletics.bethel.edu/news/2014/9/13/FB_0913142717.aspx

I'm betting that having another game under their belt before meeting Wartburg would have helped Bethel immensely so they could get most of the bugs worked out.

Kudos to Sam Sura at SJU for setting their single game rushing record and not even staying in for the whole game.

Lastly, as I already mentioned I got to the computer pretty late in the day, but in time to see the end of the shoot out between Rose-Hulman and Illinois College going to 4 OT. I went to the D3 Scoreboard page to check scores around the league and saw it was in 3 OT at the time and tuned in to watch the action. Wow, I watched history in the making. Like Keith and Pat alluded to in the Podcast this morning, it will be a game both teams will remember and talk about for a long, long time.

I also felt the defense played well until they wore out from being on the field too long. But I was also impressed with Wartburg's qb as he was very accurate all day, especially on his deep passes. They also have a very quick, swarming defense and expect them to do quite well this year.

The offense looked out of sync all day, a lot of it due to the defense. Peterson was under constant pressure and just didn't throw the ball very well when he did have time and the running game was virtually non existent.

There was 1 play in the 3rd quarter with Bethel up 7-3 that IMO could have changed the game. Marquardt (running back) got behind the defense over the middle and Peterson's pass was right on the money but he dropped it. It looked like he would have been able to take it to the house if he had hung on to it and Bethel would have been up 14-3 with momentum instead of having to punt. Wartburg might have still won the game but it would have been a totally different 2nd half.

Hopefully being the first game for them they will get things worked out in the next couple of weeks before the tough games start.

Did anyone pick up the Johnnie game on 740 am?  We were camping, and I was pumped to to listen to the first half of the game, but after that, they switched over to some oldies programming.  How do you drop a live game at half time?  Grrr.

I don't quite get your situation.  I was listening to 740 on an internet radio, and they came on around half time and said, we have to leave the air at sunset, so will be going away from the program.  So, they switched to the oldies, and I just assumed that was on-line only.  We switched over to 1170 on the same internet radio and were able to listen.

So, I get that some of these stations have to leave the air at sunset, that's not news, and I could see how they would continue online with some other programming, but if you were listening over the air, I don't get them continuing to broadcast that.

My first reaction was, how dumb for SJU to use WDGY for the broadcast, but it occurred to me that Saturday was the only night game, so the only one where that would be an issue.

Wasn't the game initially scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff and then later rescheduled to 6 p.m.?
