Looking at my own 3-0 weekend.
Hopkins downs Wayzata last night after 16 years of losses.
Johnnies beat U$T in Saint Pual for the second year in a row.
Gophers looking to win the jug from Michigan (but they're trying to give it away w/ 4:45 to go).

"I'm a uniter...not a divider."

After getting to watch the full game (for once) a few observations.

Sura is still a beast. I just wish they would run a play action or two with him on first down. It was so predictable. Have Martin fake the handoff then roll and look for the little dink pass to Ford, or something deeper if it's there. It would also make Sura more effective  when he does get it. (MORE effective?)

Tommies killed themselves with penalties.

Johnnies exhibited the ability to make plays when needed. The inteceptions and forced fumbles were good to see, and it gave them a +4 in the turnover stat. it's been a while  for that. Let's hope they keep it up.

Are they as good as they have appeared thus far, or are the Falcons and Blugolds that poor?

Well, I guess my question got answered.  :-\

I'm not that sure about that. UWEC has lost to two Top 25 teams, and the Johnnies, by somewhat similar scores. UWRF won this week, albeit against an opponent who does not have a reputation of excellence. Still, this week could have been an aberration, with the Johnnies looking ahead to UST. That's my song, and I'll keep on singing it. (At least until next week)

I remembered how to do it. Here it is.

WE ARE F.A.M.I.L.Y.
The seating on one side of the field gives a unique perspective of the UST sideline coaching sessions between series. We were on the 35 yard line, right behind the UST offensive gathering area. If this is how Caruso treats his players & coaching staff day in and day out, I would rather be an orphan than part of this "F.A.M.I.L.Y."  The verbal abuse endured by players & assistant coaches was beyond the pale.

Great win by the Johnnies. Gary, staff & team, keep it rolling!
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

After seeing something like that the whole F.A.M.I.L.Y. mantra kind of crumbles. It sounds like a family you would see on the Jerry Springer show.

Since I went to the UST-SJU game today I thought I would thrown in my observations. The better team won today but UST hurt themselves with penalties and turnovers (all though some of those turnovers were the result of good SJU play) and not kicking the fg in the first half. Obviously O'Connel was not having a good day as he was missing his receivers a lot. So it was no surprise when UST changed qbs and Gould game in. But the mistake I think they made when they did this was that they virtually abandoned the run. UST was running the ball quite effectively before the qb change (just wasn't getting the ball in the end zone) and I'm not sure why they went strictly with the pass after that. I think it made them one dimensional and the result was several turnovers. But as I said, SJU was the better team today and deserved the win.

Great game in St. Paul today.  The Red Rocket from Wayzata was making all the throws and the Johnnie defense seemed to show up at the right times.  Both squads are good enough to win out and make the playoffs. Only ran into a few undergrads who had trouble walking.

AO, might I ask what you ran into these wobbly undergrads with??

Condescending headshakes.

I'm guessing the Johnnie students did not break the record 19 party busses the Tommies brought to Collegeville in 2012.  I only caught sight of two as we walked back to the car.

Gustavus qb looked legit and the receivers catch everything. Look out for the Gusties, they will challenge the top teams in the MIAC.

Before the season I said that the miac might be the deepest it has ever been.

I'd amend this to say, the top of the MIAC is as deep as it's ever been. St. Olaf, Carleton and Hamline aren't holding up their end (but at least we don't have to add Mac to that list!). But the rest are looking like they may be in a dog fight.

The question I have right now, is how nationally competitive is are the Top 4-5 teams. Maybe it's just the Wartburg results that have me wondering. FWIW, I think Wart is pretty legit. They looked very good in the playoff game last year and brought a ton back. They were young last year and are playing with a lot of confidence now. Their D is impressive.

I'm hoping there's not carnage within the league, leading to only 1 bid again. It'd be fun to see two MIAC schools make it and give us a real sense for how the top stacks up. But there's a lot of good football to be played. GAC looks legit, SJU is is hitting its stride, UST is still dangerous, Cobbers have the QB and D that have historically made them very dangerous. Should be fun, crazy MIAC season...and really hard in pick em's!

Suraly the JOHNNIES cleaned up the Tommies and then they Martinized them ;D

Get out of town with that observation.  I mean he seems like such a GREAT guy in the endless pushing UST does with GC. I LOVE YOU!!!
