Top 25 update:

Bethel jumps from #15 to #12
Concordia moves from #25 to #22
St. John's goes from receiving votes to #23
St. Thomas drops from #10 to #24

I think it will be telling to see how the 25 pundits will place the MIAC teams next week if Bethel, St. John's and St. Thomas all win. If Bethel wins, then Concordia loses but all four teams will have one loss. And poor Gustavus with no losses may still be left on the outside looking in. I really, really hope that the voters don't knick Concordia heavier because they lost to a higher ranked team. It'll be interesting to see how things pan out.

I am bouyed by the number of non-seniors that keep showing up on the stat leader sheet. I also rue the fact that Certeza decided to leave. Can you imagine the backfield of Sura and Certeza for two more years?

Are you counting this year as one of the 'two more years'? Isn't Sura a junior this year so wouldn't that make it one more year?

They definitely didn't have the speed on defense that we've been accustomed to seeing.

The lack of team speed on defense was the 2nd biggest surprise to me.  They did graduate a lot of really good, fast players last year.

Biggest surprise to me is the play of O'Connell.  Somethings not right with him.  Didn't resemble the quarterback I've seen the last couple of years.  Seems like a good kid, hope he can fix whatever it is that ails him.

I thought Nick Waldvogel was going explode into a fine powder after a few of the shots he was taking, but he just kept popping back up.

He did take some brutal hits!  :o

Never calling for a fair catch can put a guy into some rather treacherous situations...
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Enjoyed the Tommie cast (despite the horrendous Lee). The video quality was truly worthy of the game that included two teams that have combined to win four national football titles.

Wish I could have Chromecast it to the man cave big screen, but I watched it on a laptop at the Detroit airport, a soulless place of bad pizza and bland beer. Was kind of fun to be there watching the Gophs silence the Skunk Bears in Ann Arbor, though.

The Tommies seem to do a much better job of sports media in general ... as much as it pains me to mention it. Gene McGivern is a master. Yeah, SJU sells a lot of ads in its programs, but in general its media stuff is mediocre at best.

Those weren't even the worst hits he took. I thought SJU did a fair enough job of letting him have the bubble and dragging him down on punts. I think one kickoff return he got just decimated, and then I think there was a play by the sideline where he hurt his knee or ankle or something. Not to mention all of the shots he took running the ball. One tough hombre.

I was counting this year, and referring to two more years, after the year they had together last year. ;)

Are the Johnnies like the Gopher hockey team, realizing they need to reach outside the state to get players to win?

Here's a YouTube of the complete Grand Final. The first quarter is the best, when the game is still a contest.  The other three quarters are a clinic in near perfect high pressure, high speed football so it's interesting to watch from that perspective.  It's such a dominant performance that the game is too unbalanced to be frank.

Watching now - should have told us ONJ of Xanadu fame did the national anthem.

From what I learned listening to the talks at the Kick-Off Luncheon at the beginning of fall camp, the staff has over 3,000 players on their "watch list", 1,900 of which are high school Sr. now, the rest are underclassmen. Casting the net outside of Central MN is paying dividends and from visiting with parents of some of these kids from So. Cal. last year & this year several of these guys had offers from FBS schools. For a variety of reasons they are finding school & football behind the Pine Curtain appealing.

Dumo is a great ambassador for the school, the football program and the advantages of getting out of the city and living in the woods,if only for 4 years.
