In the very early days I believe it was called the Dakota Territory. If so, would the politically correct
terminology be "Dakota Territorians"? Eh?

Anybody interested in adopting a pit bull pup?

I've got Michael Vick's number if you want to give him a call.

I totally would've. My pit bull just died 2 months ago. Top 5 saddest day ever. Took on a foster German Shepard rescued from an Indian Rez by a construction worker. Like the dog, but she's covered in mange.

My pit died 3 weeks ago.  She was 12.  I really, really miss her.  It makes me sad just to type this.  She completely changed my mind about the breed.  We have two labs and I'm not ready to add another dog at this point in time.  Good luck though I hope you find a good home for him/her.

Oops.  I stepped in it with the Michael Vick joke.  Sorry about that Bench and BW.

A few positives from this weekend for the Johnnies to add as cherries on top of the victory over the fellas on the corner of Cretin and Summit:

1) no significant injuries sustained this weekend
2) at one point in the fourth quarter, with the game's outcome still up for grabs, the Johnnies had as many as six sophomores on the field defensively

I find the second point especially interesting when thinking about the development of the defense over the next few seasons.

It's not actually my dog...it belongs to a kid I know..he moved to a place that doesn't allow dogs...It actually might be more of a foster owner situation.

Hawthorn superstars meet their idols in the Hobart airport...

#2 and her gymnastics team met a number of Hawthorn champions, including captain Luke Hodge (second player from left and standing behind #2), at the Hobart airport.  They flew down from Melbourne together - #2 going to a gymnastics competition and the Hawks touring the championship trophy.  At times like these I notice how small a country Australia is.

Gymnasts in the US are small, too.

They definitely didn't have the speed on defense that we've been accustomed to seeing.

Agreed. As talented as Sura is, on many of those occasions where SJU set the edge on the DE and he bounced it outside, in years past UST had the speed on the edges w/ their OLBs to run him out of bounds for little or no gain. The last few years UST did a good job of getting teams to going horizontally by sticking to their assignments and not getting sucked in. A lot of that is discipline, but good tackling corners and mobile LBs are needed. I have trouble believing Coach Kuchinski didn't have his guys in the right place, they just couldn't get there. I could be off-base, not like I watched the game back. Just initial impressions.

That being said, Sura is solid.

A few other takeaways. I love Coach Caruso (I know most people on this board don't, but you probably would if he coached your squad) because he is generally pretty innovative offensively and a ballsy play caller. That being said, (1) everyone in the stadium knew UST was going to fake that FG. (2) Kaiser is your RB. Take the reigns off of him and let him win some games for you.

I like Waldvogel as an occasional change of pace, maybe some designed runs for him out of the slot in motion, some jet sweeps, things like that. But if you want to control the clock, the ball and dictate the pace of the game, Kaiser is your man. Big, strong, and surprisingly shifty, and was reading his blocks and making things happen between the tackles. I still think UST can compete for a conference title, but they're going to have to do it a different way than they did in the past. Control the ball and keep the score low. Braddock will be a fine back up to Kaiser. But I think with all of the things they have Waldvogel doing on special teams, I'd just like to see him used sparingly as RB. He was taking some absolutely brutal hits on Saturday.

The Gould/O'Connell situation kind of reminds me of the Tracy/Morse dilemma. Never like to see a guy play himself out of a job, but sometimes efficiency trumps talent. Maybe O'Connell will get his rhythm back, but right now he just doesn't seem like himself.

Greetings all- glad to show up after a big SJU win and always fun to rub it in against the Tommies.  Hope everyone continues to do well-- my own HS football obligations limit my ability to get to Collegeville, and the move to New Prague means it is further away.

I had the opportunity to watch the game via the UST feed (Ugh, Dave Lee-- he's even gotten better since covering the Gophers, too), but I agree wholeheartedly as to your analysis, Bench.  Credit to SJU for playing their gameplan, but knowing what I have seen and heard of SJU this year, it was as if UST didn't scout the Jays at all in advance.  I know bye weeks often mean teams are slow to get started, but I was shocked that UST didn't use its size advantage on offense and just pound the rock all game  to wear down SJU.  It wouldn't have been pretty, but it was effective.  And when it was a 7 point game in the fourth quarter with lots of time left, I thought that's what Caruso should have done to take control of the game and get momentum on the Tommies' side.  But he gambled by trying to get the big play and, by being over aggressive, got burned.

Still worried about the Johnnies, though.  Suspect against a physical running team (Bethel), and not altogether all that great on offense other than giving it to Sura.  Against an athletic defense and a physical offense, we'd be in real trouble.

No biggy. I had BIG misconceptions about pits before I got my first one. First little guy was so awesome I got a second one that was a bit older for him to play with. She was the best dog I ever had. Unfortunately she had terrible seizures. Then after a big one, her hind end was paralyzed and we found out she had a tumor on her spine. That was all she wrote.

Firmly of the belief that dogs are a reflection of how their owner treats them. Which is why I guess there are so many obese dogs in St. Joseph. Bazing.
