GO JOHNNIES!
Snow in the San Juans just south of here. Great day for JOHNNIE football.
I'm off to Special Olympics. Hope to claim my reserved seat at halftime :)

Got a little sunburned this afternoon watching BU win - got a racing stripe from my sunglasses to prove it.  ;D

Not being able to listen or watch the game yesterday (&^%$*&&), it looks as though Gary is a bit quicker to pull the starters than was John. I think that could have two positive effects. The starters will not be subject to being injured, especially by cheap shots taken by  disgruntled players who are being stomped, and don't care about getting penalized. Secondly, the reserves will get valuable playing time, which could help in the future. I think that could have three positive effects. Thirdly, coaches can identify players who might have the ability to step in if someone else is not getting the job done. Did I say three? It could have four positive effects. All players will be fresher throughout the season.

Again, I'm jazzed about the high number of lower classmen (hopefully, who will all return next year) on the stat sheet.

It was good to see all at the tailgate party, some who I see almost every week and others that I haven't seen in quite some time. A good time was had by all.

To SagatagSam, Congratulations on your engagement! Clearly, like most of us on this board, you have out punted your coverage. To once again confirm, as I have reminded USTBench, let her think she is molding you into the man of her dreams. Remember, happy wife = happy life.

To add to reagent's previous post, I think Gary is quite sensitive to the injury bug that has bitten the team. Johnny Benson replaced Martin partway through the 2nd Qtr. and he exited the game with a TD pass & concussion like symptoms, according to the SCTimes. I don't recall Gunnar Anderson seeing any playing time this year but he finished the 1st half & played the entire 2nd half at QB. It would be tragedy if at some point in the season the first & second QB were out of a game and #3 hadn't seen any playing time. In a situation like that, perhaps Bungum would step into an emergency role at QB. Luckily this game was over midway through the 2nd Qtr. and the Johnnies had to luxury of getting some playing time for some of the underclassmen.

Speaking of Anderson, with all the concern about injuries and health and safety in football these days, it's a little worrying the Johnnies would send a 13-month-old out there to play QB. Guess "No babies" is not one of the no's.

Good catch! One tough toddler from the Falls. You've got to crawl before you walk, even in the MIAC.

(And, sadly, more sloppy work by the SJU Media folks.)

I'm too pained to bother searching myself so maybe someone here can give me the tip.  Why are the Vikings rotating QB starters?  I see that all three have started a game.  Are they doing our previous year QB shuffle because they can't make up their minds on who is #1?

EDIT:  Also, I haven't brought myself to watch a game this year since they appear to all be garbage.  We're either being blown out of the water or blowing other teams away.  It seems that we are in the upper part of teams that really suck and I can't give up a Monday morning for that sort of randomness.

Matt Cassel- #1 broken foot out for the year. Teddy Bridgewater #2 injured ankle in first start vs Atlanta, next game was Green Bay on a Thursday (short week)- should be ready next week. #3 Christian Ponder....., they couldn't find a member of the janitorial staff to suit up so had to put someone out there vs. Green Bay.  :-[

After the first quarter of the SJU/HU game, I really thought it was going to get ugly (not that 28-0 after 15 minutes isn't ugly), but thankfully, it was a home game, so there were lots of of back-ups looking to get some field time, and the coaching staff really starting subbing in reserves early.  The first quarter was a thing of beauty.

I knew this before Saturday, but Clark is a helluva return man.  It was only a matter of time before he busted one all the way.  Awesome to see.  Sura continues to impress.  I think he had 27 yards on the first two plays of the game.  It was exciting to see Martin air it out a few times.

All in all, it got boring in a hurry.  We headed over to the celebration on the Tundra after the 3rd quarter.  The bouncy houses were calling. :)

This next game should be interesting.  Willy Wonka has been running his mouth about GAC being 5-0 (mostly likely 6-0 after this weekend), but they've started off with a cream puff schedule of Crown College, Lake Forest College, Hamline, Augsburg, Carleton, and they've got a weak St. Olaf team on 10/11.  Not exactly a gauntlet.  After a 6-0 start, I think the Gusties will end up 6-4, which, if you're a Gustie fan, is pretty darn good.  I'm sure the Johnnies will have some revenge on their minds for the sorry excuse of a game they played in St. Peter last year, and the road for the Gusties doesn't get any easier from there.

Upcoming games in the MIAC for the weekend of October 11

If there was any surprise from this past week's MIAC games, I suppose it was how dominating St. Thomas appeared against St. Olaf. I don't think any of us were surprised that they won, just how many points they racked up.  After watching the Bethel/Concordia game I would have to say that with two teams in the conference still left undefeated and the next four all having only one loss, it is going to be real interesting to see how things shake out through the remainder of the season as the teams continue to do battle with one another. I do not think it is a done deal, in any way, shape or form.

However, this week's games fall right in the middle of the season and can be looked at in at least one of two ways. Either it is weak week or it is upset week, depending on your disposition concerning your favorite team's position in the league. The only thing that is for certain is that there will be one less one-loss team after this upcoming weekend's games because St. Thomas hosts Augsburg. It may be that St. Olaf pulls the upset and adds Gustavus to the teams in the league with one loss, but that seems unlikely.

The other two games of Bethel at Hamline and Carleton at Concordia seem on one hand to be in the bag. Yet there is always a chance that an upset could break out in what appears to be a ho-hum week in the conference. That's why they play all the games throughout the whole season. If I look at what teams have done so far this season I think the most realistic upset for the week would be that of the Augsburg at St. Thomas game, but even that seems a bit of a stretch.

If things play out as expected it appears that after this weekend's games the MIAC will be down to two undefeated teams in Bethel and Gustavus, and three teams with only one loss, Concordia, St. John's and St. Thomas. The final five weeks of the season all have some great match-ups within the conference schedule and it could be a wild ride on the tilt-o-whirl to the end.

Just would make them the same 6-0 that we were talking about back in August. Haven't beaten anyone yet.

I was pleased and surprised to see Johnny Benson in the first half, and then the whole second half the third string QB played for SJU (too bad it was because of an injury), so that was a positive.

Nice to see the RB's involved in the passing game, that seems to be renewed emphasis this year for the Johnnies.  Sundly does pretty well.  Still would like to see Bungum get more touches.

The D is doing a good job of undermining my arguments that the Johnnies need to get bigger on D in order to compete.  Really, a couple of 200 pound inside LB's??  You gotta be kidding!  And has been mentioned elsewhere, the youth of many of the guys getting PT especially on D is very encouraging.

Is it really? Teams often get votes without beating anyone.
