Good God, the Vikings suck!  If I still lived in Minnesota I would struggle as a pro sports tragic. Unbelievable.

EDIT: I fully expect a complete collapse in over time.

EDT II: impossible. The fifth sign of the Apocalypse: The Vikings come through in a clutch situation.

With the Vikings win, I get a rare sweep this week by teams I cheer for (Vikings, Cobbers, any team playing Minnesota).

Please elaborate.  ???

Well, this weekend I was an Illinois fan.

So in other words - any team playing against the Gophers. Got it.

Retired Old Rat

Great day yesterday.

Any day in Collegeville is a good day.

Met OzJohnnie.  Which was a great pleasure.

Beautiful weather.

OzJohnnie fronted me some cash so I didn't need to talk my way in.  (Forgot to stop at an ATM.  Old age is my excuse.)

Johnnies win in a Double Monkey Stomp, allowing me to leave at halftime and

Catch the last 7 minutes of the Tommie loss to Bethel.

Tommies loved to talk about GC winning more games than the previous year.

Looking forward to the annual story this year and and the next few about him losing more games than the prior.  I expect they'll stabilize at 4 to 5 losses per year.

Maybe you didn't see it, but the #1 rated Gopher hockey team beat Bemidji State twice this weekend.

Last Gopher hockey game I watched was last year against Union.

Enjoyed that 7-4 whoopin' thoroughly...

Let's hope it doesn't take seven turnovers to take down Auggie Tech this year.

If SJU can get a lead and begin to run away with the game, you may just begin to hear me whistling the Gustie Rouser for a little help from our friends from St. Peter.
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

That doesn't matter. The Johnnies still have to beat Bethel head to head. You better hope that CCM drops one against UST or GAC, or it doesn't matter. CCM still beat the Johnnies head to head,so the Johnnies need take care of business AND need help from someone to beat CCM.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

You asked about SJU and BU. I helped out with some alumni mentoring recently and can tell you that a few young alumni openly characterized other MIAC schools, with the exception of Macalester and Carleton, as "second-tier" safety schools. I was a little surprised they were so forthright with these opinions. Maybe UST's institutional success, it's push toward national prominence, over the past few decades is coloring these students' attitudes.

You're either delusional, or you pal around with the complete a-holes at U$T.  As much as it pains me to say, most of the Tommie grads that I know are good folks.  I'm hoping they're the majority, but every time you "open your mouth", you seem to sway my opinion the other way.

I almost forgot about that.  The guy travels from "Melbun" to Collegeville and ends up fronting you some cash.  I had to laugh.  ;D

It must be sad to have so few of those moments.

I suppose you're in a tizzy because the Wild AHL affiliate is in Iowa.

Last week I had mentioned that the Concordia-Hamline game might be an indicator of how Concordia and St. Thomas will play against each other this week. We'll come back to that story line in a bit. In looking back we see that Hamline played in a row the 5 teams that had no losses or just one loss. They won none of them after winning the first two non-conference games. Hamline stands a real good chance of finishing at .500 by winning out. They should be able to beat St. Olaf this week at home. Their tough game will be traveling over to Augsburg the following week, and they finish with Carleton at home.

Carleton has the bye this week to get ready for a visit from St. Thomas the following week, and then headed to Hamline as I mentioned above.

St. John's heads to Augsburg this coming Saturday and will have their work cut out for them as they try to keep the rambling man, Ayrton Scott, in check. If they can do that I don't see the Auggies defense being able to stop Sura and the Johnnies roll again to a win this week.

Bethel is going down to St. Peter to take on the well rested Gusties. On paper or if you're looking at the conference records from afar you would be mistaken in thinking that this will be a close game. Gustavus will score some points against the Royals but not nearly enough as Bethel puts away the second team in as many weeks with only one loss coming into the game.

The game of the week in the MIAC because of all the play-off implications has to be Concordia traveling down to St. Thomas. Above I mentioned that Hamline might be a barometer of how these two teams  might stack up against one another. St. Thomas scored more points against Hamline while Hamline scored fewer points against Concordia. Additionally, comparing the Royals to the Cobbers and Tommies simply by the scores of the games played this year one sees that Concordia held BU to less points and St. Thomas scored more points. After watching Bethel play both of these teams I would say that Concordia looks like the better team this year because of the apparent better defense they seem to exhibit. The Cobbers also appear to be better disciplined on the field – less drama, which might have been the Tommies undoing this past week against BU.

If the Cobbers win this game, there will definitely be some clarity (using the word of the week from last week's D3 podcast) concerning post-season play. If the Tommies do figure out a way to win, then things get messier. Once we get past this week's games we'll be able to better speculate about who wins the conference and who stands a chance of getting in as a Pool C contender.

Either you're looking to stir the pot or you missed the point of my response. These were young alumni met through mentoring, not folks I "pal around with." Furthermore, holding the views they espoused does not preclude them from being "good folks." It simply means they don't think highly of some other MIAC schools and were willing to share. My point was contained within the last line you chose not to quote, the part where I said these attitudes are harmful. As an aside, perhaps you should get yourself out of attack mode. It's no longer Tommie/Johnnie week.
