As a player in the 409 game, gotta say, I don't think this one matches up. SJU and BU are both very talented squads and playing for a conference crown. There's history and you know it'll be a big crowd on Saturday.

That said, the 409 game involved two unbeaten teams, both in the top 10. And then there's that whole reason why we call it the '409 Game.'

I realize none of this is lost on you. But I'm not sure there's anything that could happen on the field Saturday that could make this game top the 409. IMO, that's the best total game experience (history, hype, stuff on the line, play on the field, environment, result, etc.) I've encountered in D3. Other's might argue with that assessment, but I'll stick to my guns.  :)

When All Americans of Johnnie lore are writing emails to Coach J, congratulating him on the game, team and sportsmanship and gushing about how epic it all was, that says a lot.

I was at the 409 Game, and there is no argument here suggesting this game will ever top the 409 game--save for a game with four overtimes and a blizzard beginning in the middle of the fourth quarter.

I'm just relying on an often used weapon in the Johnnie basketball toolbox--and by that I mean bringing out a team from yesteryear to swing the balance in what otherwise could be a game where SJU gets beat. During my tenure, the times we beat ranked opponents at SJU, there always seemed to be the SJU MIAC championship squad from 1970-whenever having an anniversary.

Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Maybe the can re-present Gagliardi with some of the awards that have been bestowed upon him over the years ala U$T.  ;)

I finally went over and took a look at the SOS rankings for this year and was shocked at how high Bethel's is right now - the only team with a winning record ranked higher is Wesley. Wow.

Edit: Rowan is a 4 and 3 team, but no chance for post season play.

9. Bethel
42. Concordia Moorhead
78. St. Thomas
99. St. John's
140. Gustavus

Does anyone know why the webcasts were down last Saturday and will the problem be fixed for this Saturday?  I went to a game being played in the East and streamed by another server and it was fine.

This is the first year that I've tried to watch via webcast.  The U$T one was great.  The GAC one sucked.

I think it be worthwhile to send your concerns to Stretch.  I've actually contacted them during games and within a few minutes get a response....and soon after the stream started up again.

My week is starting out just wonderfully.  My daughter gave me a cold, so I stopped to get a box of Kleenex on my way to work.  I came out to a dead battery in my car.  So, after jumping it, I now sit at work, trying to focus on my annual self-appraisal, which is due this afternoon.

Looks like somebody's got a case of the Mondays.  :-[

Sorry, Pat, though I would have thought it was history, not politics.  I don't know how old AO is, but FDR died 3 years before I was born!

It offends the historian in me when someone would just parrot Herbert Hoover rather than checking readily available facts.  Historical unemployment records can be obtained in about 1 minute in the internet. :P

Out of curiosity, which parroted facts don't offend you as a historian?  :)

ROR, you get +K for a week from me for dusting off the official rules!  Wasn't that a fun week?

I just assumed we all remembered the rules?  I wrote it to mean 8-41.

...as without a forward pass in the arsenal I see Bethel running roughshod over my beloved Johnnies.

I predict that we'll see a 90:10 pass:run ratio.  Fasch has been purposely keeping the passing game under wraps in order to slay the Royals.

Parroted facts (as long as they truly are facts) don't offend me.  It is parroted opinions which are contrary to (easily ascertained) facts that are offensive.
