UST is beating SJU in this battle:

http://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report/bachelors

UST #123 and SJU #189.  My teaching salary is lowering the mean for SJU, however I do enjoy June, July, and August immensely!
PLU looks pretty good on that list.  Linfield not so much...ha!

There was a link down in the comments to a survey near and dear to my heart, ROI of a college education taking into account the costs and opportunity costs of attending school.  I don't know how well they did their work, but it's a question I'm interested in.  Some highlights:

School      20-yr ROI
UST          7.1%
SJU          10.1%
GAC         6.0%
AUG         8.0%
STO         6.4%
CON        5.6%
BU           7.7%
CSB         6.8%
CC           7.6%
MAC         9.0%
PLU         7.4%
LIN          7.5%
SCSU      9.4%
UofM       11.1%

So, you tend to do better income-wise over the course of your career if you go to school.  If you borrowed $100k for dividend paying shares, however, at a modest 5% yield, then you would get a 15% ROI over that same 20 years.  Despite this argument, there isn't a chance in hell (according to Mrs Oz) that our girls are not going to university.  Our kids are from Lake Wobegone and all well above average.  They'll beat the market.

By the way, the cost of borrowing money is not considered in either equation so it balances out for comparison purposes.

Also, it pays to have the taxpayer subsidize your college education.  Makes the ROI better from your perspective.

Because I'm seriously looking for ways to procrastinate and get fired, I've come back to this.  If you invest that $100k in the market and look for  a yield around 14%, closer to a common hurdle rate for business investment, then you're looking at a 33% ROI over 20 years.  That's over a three-times better return, on average, than investing in yourself with an education.  Despite this even stronger argument, the Oz girls will still be attending university.  And if anyone sends this post to Mrs Oz then I'm likely to end up dead.  Take that as an opportunity to show friendship or exact revenge as your conscience compels.

So one of those reader polls asked which game Pep would like to attend and Pep, looking at the local and national scene of this vast expanse of pure collegiate pigskin competition also known as Division III Football, this morning asked himself, were Pep the time and the resources, what football game would Pep attend tomorrow?

1) Ithaca (6-2, 5-2 Empire 8) will play at St. John Fisher (7-1, 6-1 Empire 8) for the Empire 8 championship at 1 p.m. in Pittsford, NY

2) Pep's Alfred Saxons (5-3, 3-3 E8) will play at Utica College (5-3, 3-3 E8) at 6 p.m. in a game time changed by the fact that Utica is hosting the Empire 8 Field Hockey Championships...a night game in the Northeast in November after we've already had snowfall and turned our clocks back?

3) Hobart (8-0, 5-0 LL) at St. Lawrence (7-1, 5-0 LL) for the Liberty League championship at 1 p.m. in Canton, NY

4) Pep's alma mater Morrisville State (7-2, 5-1 NJAC) at Montclair State (7-1, 5-0 NJAC) for the New Jersey Athletic Conference championship at 1 p.m. in Montclair, NJ

5) Wabash (8-0, 7-0) at Wittenberg (7-1, 7-0) for the NCAC championship at 1 p.m. at Springfield, OH

6) Bethel (7-1, 6-0 MIAC) at St. John's (7-1, 5-1 MIAC) for the MIAC championship at 2 p.m. at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville, MN

Now Pep could likely see the Bombers and Cardinals in Rochester and have time to make the two-hour drive to Utica to see his Saxons.
But Pep has always wanted to see the Johnnies at home in Clemens Stadium and experience first hand a D3 game day at its finest.

Pep's personal preference, present position pondered, predicates Pep precariously performing pre-'puter preponderance.

Seriously, if you did leave right now you could be in the twin cites by midnight CST, crash for the night and drive the final stretch in the morning after a good night's rest.

I would be in favor of you going to your Alma Mater and see them do something no one would have thought would happen, especially how the last decade has been. It something you can cherish, especially if you share the game experience with other Alum. However, other than that it would probably be the MIAC championship because of the experience that you aforementioned.

Help a Cobber fan understand something?  I'll get back to you right after I put the finishing touches on my perpetual motion machine.

By the amount of keyboard strokes logged on this site, one would think you have it fairly well fine-tuned.

Anyone hear of any injury updates for the Royals? More than likely they don't like to let that info out to keep the opponent in the dark but thought I would ask anyway.

Good luck to both teams this weekend - looking forward to a hard fought, injury free game.

Go Royals!!

However, other than that it would probably be the MIAC championship because of the experience that you aforementioned.

While Pep is a Moo'ville alum, it was a junior college when Pep was in attendance. Pep will always fondly remember his two years in Oneida Hall and all he learned as sports editor of the CHIMES and from Dan Reeder (Kansas alum and big Jayhawk fan) and Neal Bandlow (Michigan State alum and big fan of the Spartans and Detroit Tigers). Moo'ville had no football team then. In fact, Pep wrote a column in said CHIMES advocating for the return of football to the Morrisville athletic offerings, which it heeded a couple of decades later. While at Morrisville, Pep continued to be an Alfred Saxon football fan and spoke often of the beloved (and legendary) Coach Alex Yunevich. Heck, Bandlow nicknamed Pep "Alfred" because "that's all he ever talks about."

Pep was on the Moo'ville campus in May and, in a visit to see the upgraded athletic facilities at the STUAC, walked into the place where Pep had participated in Intramual Bowling (there were four lanes) and instead was in the football offices where he met present Morrisville Coach Curt FitzPatrick, a Fisher grad whom Pep had seen play against his Saxons. Ironically, while Pep was pleased to meet the young coach, Pep learned that the feeling was mutual because FitzPatrick had been reading Pep's preposterous posts while an assistant coach to ensure his players didn't pull a Gatto. (An AU linebacker who posted on these boards, complete with misspelled words, prior to an Alfred-Ithaca game).

So Pep won't be traveling to Joisey to see the Mustangs this time...but will see plenty of them in the future as they join the Empire 8 in 2015.

For no particular reason, I will share with you that I had a good friend who was an Alfred grad when I was in the Army at Ft Monmouth, NJ.
