Quote"We're at two different institutions. It's like comparing apples and cows really. So we have two different situations. But Gary has done a great job of taking what John (Gagliardi) built there and tightening up some areas the program may have gotten a little lax on. That's normal when a team has been as successful as they have for so long. You can start to get a little comfortable. But Gary has come in and tweaked a few things. And now look at where they are again."

I don't know exactly why, but that quote just strikes me as a bit odd.  ???

Sounds like a head nod at an excuse. Fasching takes over an SJU squad sitting around .500, immediately returns them to contender status.

Stern takes a contender and immediately turns them into a bottom-feeder. Seems to me like he's implying, this is apples and cows (talk about destroying your metaphors!), i.e. there's good reasons why Olaf now stinks and SJU is now great...and the former has nothing to do with me being HC, look at what I've got to work with!!

But, admittedly, that's reading between the lines quite a bit. And maybe I'm just in a cynical mood  ???

Augsburg will "Shock The Monkey" and beat Bethel tomorrow.  You heard it here first.  8-)

I would appreciate that.

Not sure about the St. Olaf metaphor, but Johnnies certainly have to be careful about tomorrow's game and not count their oranges before they're hatched.

Confusing writing just reminded me of a line a part-timer wrote at my old newspaper once. "The Jackson and Worthington baseball teams played with each other for seven innings Monday."

I made some edits to that opening.

Another classic.  I'd expect a similar comment from tmerton.

Six of one, a buck-fifty's worth of the other.

Good luck to everyone on the last day of the regular season...but best of luck to the boys in red and white.  Take care of business in Northfield and bring a share of the MIAC championship back where it belongs in Collegeville.

I'll be freezing my ass off at Hopkins working at the Dawson-Boyd / MPLS North game.

You'd think a 6:30 flight out of IAD would give one plenty of time to hop down to Northfield for my first live SJU game in a long time.

Nope. Thanks, Frontier.

Even worse the folks headed to weddings and funerals.

And the broken plane was here overnight ...
