So who gets second and third place in the conference with equal 6-2 and 8-2 records? I'd guess St. Thomas with their head to head win against Concordia. Is that a safe assumption? And if it is, is there any chance they make it to the Pool C bids?

As far as the conference goes, only conference games count, so throw Bethel in there as well at 6-2. Add the fact that Bethel beat both Concordia and St. Thomas head to head so I would think Bethel would finish 2nd in the conference, not that it really matters. But when it comes to a Pool C bid, the additional non conference loss Bethel has now comes into play and rules them out.

Just read a recap of the Mount Union/John Carroll game. JC was down by 7 and completed a pass to the MU 7 yard line but didn't have any time outs. They spiked the ball to stop the clock for 1 more play, but evidently there is a new rule that says you can't spike the ball with less than 3 seconds to play so the game was over.  ???

I didn't know this was a rule and looked it up. I see it was implemented last year. I don't understand exactly what this rule is supposed to prevent.

According to the rule, it is no longer legal because someone has determined that you need at least 3 seconds to get a play off. I thought as long as there was still 1 second left on the clock and the clock was stopped, why do you need 3 seconds?  That logic makes absolutely no sense what so ever to me. So if a side line pass was completed and the receiver steps out of bounds with less than 3 seconds left, they don't say that the game is over then, do they? What a completely ridiculous rule, if you ask me. Cost JC 1 last chance to tie up the game.

Thanx AO for crunching the numbers every week! It's really a lot of fun to see how others view the games.

I see in the Mock Bracket, they have UWW, Wartburg, Linfield and St John's, all in the same bracket. I hope that is not the case. It also shows that if things go according to Hoyle, SJU meets Wart in the second round. There's something wrong with that.

I read the same thing and don't understand the rule - especially in college football where the clock stops on first downs. With the clock stopped until the chains are set it isn't inconceivable for a team to get set before the the ball is spotted and snap and spike within two seconds or just run a play. I understand how the rule is designed, to prevent clock home cooking, but from the sounds of it the game basically ends with three seconds on the clock.

Another rule that I sort of knew about but hadn't given much thought to until the SJU/St Olaf game yesterday was ejections for multiple personal fouls. The referee made multiple references to "this is the first personal foul on" so and so. How many does it take to get ejected - two? Again, I understand the spirt of having this in place but it doesn't seem like a perfect system. I assume if the ejection happens in the second half the player has to miss the following game, similar to targeting rule ejection.

Rats.  Maybe the conditions yesterday will spur coach J to push for a field turf field.

Oh well.  Fun to watch BU have a passing game the past few years with Peterson at the helm...he will be tough to replace.

Congrats to SJU for taking home the title outright.  I've climbed aboard the playoff bandwagon and look forward to watching them hopefully have a good run.

On to BU basketball...off to a 1-0 start after beating UWRF yesterday.

Go Johnnies!

I'm sitting in the kitchen w/ my cup of coffee and watching the SJU / Ole game from yesterday.  WTH was Ole thinking when he attempted a 45 yard in the first quarter?  I guess that happens when you compare apples to cows.

Yesterday & the playoff loss last year (I know Peterson was out for that one) but yes,BU should really consider getting a key donor or donors to foot the bill for FieldTurf. I understand the nostalgia of playing on real grass, but muddy or frozen fields take the advantage away from the playmakers (especially on defense) when footing/traction is the issue.

The 2001 play-off game against Stevens Point in the rain, that turned to snow that turned into unplayable conditions because of below zero temps that night thus moving the next "home" play-off game to the FargoDome was the last straw that pushed SJU into an artificial playing surface.

Thanks for the support GoldandBlue. For the record, I even attended Bethel play-off games last year  :-\
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!
