Interested to see how SJU handles Jacobsmeier, who is the second best receiver I've seen this year next to Joey Sonnenfeld.

Sonnenfield:  2 catches for 22 yards vs. SJU.  I'll take that from Jacobsmeier.  ;)
Two (of my thoughts) on SJU going down to Wartburg:
1) The Johnnies had a good defensive game plan back at Augsburg.  They always had a corner underneath and a safety over top of Sonnenfeld and really took him out of the game.  They then also did a good job of containing Scott and Washington that day.  If they can put together a solid defensive game plan against Schrader, Domeyer, and Jacobsmeier it should be a close low scoring game.
2) The Johnnies this year at times have played to level of their opponent.  They seemed to play down to Olaf (could be weather), Scholastica, and even Hamline, but they did rise up and play some very good football against UST, Bethel, and the second half of the GAC game.  They obviously will need to play their best to beat a very good Wartburg team.

Not so sure winning by 6 is like $hit* through a goose, but they have handled the MIAC this year.  Although looking head to head against UST Wartburg won by 6 and SJU won by 10.

The Wartburg hogs are a different animal than the Auggies. No offense to Auggie O-Line, but Scott has to improvise quite a bit more than Schrader.

Since I watched both Wartburg and SJU v Augsburg I thought I should "pitch in". All of what I have read here regarding the Wartburg Big Guns is spot on IMO. The RB Dohmeyer is a load but he is not as athletic as Sura. The QB Schrader is good, just flat out good. Sorry to say this guys but Martin is not in his league. I would rank Schrader as better than GAC's QB Hendricks (saw both v Augsburg). His WR Jacobsmeier runs very crisp routes and he catches everything. I am biased but I agree with Bench that he is not quite the same as Sonnenfeld who BTW jumped right in to the BB season and was playing in a game days after the final FB game.

I am looking forward to this game, the big difference to me is the AA offensive tackle from Wartburg. Forget his name but he is very talented and big. If they get Dohmeyer going behind that guy then it will be tough going for SJU.  The Knights also bring in a def lineman for short yardage as fullback and he is not small. They are impressive. If the Johnnies can stop that running game or keep them off the field by playing good smart defense and running the ball with Sura/Bungum then I think the they can do it. I think Bungum will have a big day and will be the difference for SJU. I was impressed with his "scat back" abilities.

Perhaps, but I think it was ultimately Bethel that forced Coach Caruso into making a decision he didn't want to make, and that was to start Gould. UST needed to mask a deficient defense with an explosive offense that could control the ball this year and thankfully that was realized in time to get a Pool C bid. But overall UST finished about how I expected after the SJU game. Pass rush wasn't getting home, linebackers were not as fast as they were in the past and the secondary struggled covering the better receivers in the MIAC this year. If UST won and played SJU again this year, I think the game would have been a little tighter but the result would be about the same. UST can win the MIAC next year, especially with the offense that returns, but that defense must improve.

Weather is a factor in how a game is played.  Duh.

What's stupid is the insinuation that a playoff selection committee should consider "bad weather" as an excuse for a loss.  Playoff selection committees should look at the game's results, end of story.  There's no provision to say "Golly gee, the weather was bad that day, so Good Team X lost to Bad Team Y because of Weather.  I guess we can't count that loss against Good Team X because the game was affected by weather."  Nor is there some obligation to try to guess what the game results would have been if it was played in perfect conditions ("Good Team X would have beaten Bad Team Y in good weather"), especially because weather happens in the playoffs, too.  Actually, there's likely to be more "weather" in the playoffs, the deeper we get into the year, than in the regular season.

These guys always amaze me...there were a couple on BU's roster doing that last year, and I believe a couple this year (Tusler and Canfield)...with as much time as practices and games take up coupled with school, I can't imagine signing up to do it Sept - March.)

OConnel made that decision tquite a bit easier with his first half at BU...2 INT's, several off target throws, and a third should have been INT that bounced off a d-back's hand.

Tons of variables, obviously, but had Gould started that game and played as well as he did in the first half, things could've gone the other way.

It will be interesting to see who emerges as the starter next year at UST...Gould would be a very capable senior leader, but does Caruso see someone behind him who has more potential upside?

Anyway, excited to watch the SJU - Wart game...and thanks to whoever posted the reminder about the noon start last Saturday, I always manage to forget that extra hour.

I don't think any of us were saying that BU deserved to be in based on the weather...that would be ridiculous...just expressing how frustrating it was to see weather change that game in the way that it did via the field conditions, where our BU bias (and statistics) led us to believe that things would have gone the other way on a better surface.  (Cue OldAuggie to post another rant about how the field didn't matter at all).

BU lost in a completely fair matchup where both teams had to play on an ice sheet, and Augsburg made 1 more play than Bethel.

Yes.
He went 15-35 for 116 yards and an interception that day in Salem.
