Nah, I want Wartburg. I'd like the team that beat the Johnnies to win it, plus it's always nice for the conference to have the champion of the MIAC also be national champions.

Thanks Johnnies for a fun season.

Underclassmen, the preparation for next year starts next week. You set the bar high and know what it takes to win.

Outgoing Sr. class, thanks for the memories and welcome to the Brotherhood of the Red Cup.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I said it last week about St. Thomas and I'll say it again this week about St. John's, you came to Iowa with a good team, classy players, good coaches, and polite fun loving fans.  I get your rivalry thing with each other, but when playing at Wartburg you are all top notch.  I would be remiss in failing to mention the same could be said of Bethel when they visited earlier this season.

I'm with you fury - would love to see some more top 4 teams get upset and see the Knights take it all - we'll see if it comes about.

I see you Dennis.  Great win down in Texas.  You can ask WC11 & GHC, I predicted a Cats win to them via text message on Thanksgiving.  Just a little classic TDT antagonizing you!!

The X Factor is absolutely Nick Martin on Saturday.  He has played his best in the biggest games of the year (Bethel & UST).  I thought he was horrendous against CSS.  There were numerous times where he held the ball too long in the pocket, failed to feel the pressure from his backside, and nearly was crushed/fumbled.  He held the ball way too long and several times took significant losses instead of throwing the ball away.  In addition, Martin missed several wide open receivers because he is too slow in his read progressions.  Sundly should've scored twice on identical plays to the flat off play action if Martin had seen him wide open.

I thought the offense as a whole looked confused & out of sorts against CSS.  I noticed they again had issues getting the right personnel/play call in from the sidelines which resulted in wasted timeouts at the line of scrimmage.  Anyone look what the SJU conversion rate to points was on those 8 CSS INTs?   It sure didn't feel adequate.

It won't fly against a much better opponent in Waverly this weekend.

I think this post from earlier in the week came to fruition.  I feel like the loss of Sura had little/no effect on the outcome yesterday.  Bungum was good enough.  More confusion on play calls/personnel led to wasted timeouts.  Really unacceptable in the 12th game of the season.

Nick Martin was not near good enough.  The number of 3 and outs in the first half along with off target throws to open receivers won't cut it in the playoffs.  Hope he gets pushed in August and/or early next season.  QB play was the number 1 issue in 2014.

I agree with you TDT and think you're correct. I remain really hopeful for next year and look forward to what the team will do.

We open against debuqe and Buena vista before meeting CON and UST, so there isn't a lot of time or navel gazing before our fate is tested. I reckon offensive coordination will be a tough gig early next year.

So basically SJU will be heading into week four 3-0 and week five 3-1...  ;)

Big coaching news in the west. Lance Leipold is leaving UW-Whitewater to become the head coach at Buffalo. http://www.si.com/college-football/2014/11/28/buffalo-bulls-hire-lance-leipold-head-coach

The Buffalo Bulls.  I had to read that twice.  I thought he was head of the NFL franchise for a couple seconds.

Don't count your Johnnies before they're hatched ... or maybe even laid an egg.

That's a Tommie sarcastically counting eggs for us, DBQ. Although, I have to say that after Wartburg's treatment of our fair league this year that there will be a little payback in order.

In other football news: The top ten Hawthorn plays of the year. A lot of excitement from the Hawk's small players in Riolli and Puopolo this year with a very big finish from little Will Langford.

After having lived in Minnesota, I have great respect for St. John's football ... and not so much for the Thommies.  Could be a great game.
