Absence of proof does not mean proof of absence.  I say let the DI poaching rumors fly until someone disproves them!!!

There is another element that needs to be proven beyond simply shouting "they get D1 players"--it is that they do so in improper fashion.
Blake Elliott is the perfect example of a D3 team getting a guy that turned out to be D1 talented, but that does not make it improper all by itself.

Anyone making the argument that what Mount/Whitewater is doing is wrong also has to prove that those guys would not be there without some incentive that lands out-of-bounds when it comes to the NCAA rules and regulations.

I know the NCAA has a formula that mandates that the amounts any need-based scholarships given to athletes at the D3 level must not deviate from those same scholarships a school offers to non-athletes.* Are these numbers reported on an annual basis to the NCAA?

*There are allegations here in the MIAC that a certain school on the corner of Cretin and Summit tortures this formula to gain a competitive advantage in football.

Yes, and for several years now. Some schools have been called on it. Not much in football, more so in ice hockey. Most recently UW-River Falls (in football, under O'Grady).

OZ - I couldn't help noticing during the coverage of the "incident" in Sydney, there was a sign near the Lindt's where the trouble was, that looked like a restaurant named "Burger Bro?" was near that shop. I have made it a policy not to go to eateries that are questions, exclamations, or other  parts of speech not nouns. What's the deal? Are they asking if you want a burger? Maybe you do, but should you go there for one? Don't they know whether it's a burger or not?

Clear this up for me.

I don't know the joint, but I'm flying up to Sydney today. If I remember I'll go over and have a look. Whatever it is, in that location it will be the most overpriced lunch in history.

I don't know where to put this post in order to be pertinent to the topic     ..... but...........

The Front Page Poll asks about whether you care about the Stagg Bowl. I believe the poll is flawed and will have results that mean nothing. Just think, if you don't care, I doubt if you're going to be on the Web Site. Or, if you're even on the Web Site, will you care enough to vote about whether you care, if you don't care?

It would be interesting, and maybe add something to the validity, if you compare the number of people who vote in this poll to the number that have voted in previous polls.

But, frankly, I DON'T CARE!!

I've heard the argument that Mount Union gets D1 talent to play for them, but I've never bothered to research it.

How many guys on their roster are D1 transfers?

Just because they don't have any D1 transfers doesn't mean they don't have D1 talent players. Just looking at recent history there have been about a half dozen players from Mount Union that have played in the NFL (or at least have been on a roster at one point). If you are good enough to get drafted by the NFL I would say qualifies as D1 talent. :)

D1 recruits are kids with D1 size/talent coming out of high school.   Not after playing 4 years of college football.

Most of the D3 players that people identify as being a "D1 talent" grew into that during college.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I agree.

If I lived in or near Ohio, was pretty talented at football, wanted to play for a winner, etc, but wasn't getting recruited into DI or wasn't happy with what I was recruited with or schools didn't suit me, then I would go to MUC.  Same with UWW.  If I have good football skills and a passion for winning but DI isn't right for any reason then why not join a champion school?  Champions attract champions.  I don't see anything sinister.

Also, in terms of the MUC boys making the draft I think that Sr was a spectacular coach.  Talent is everywhere and coaches tend to make the difference for in my opinion.  Special coaches help make good players great and great players exceptional.  I look at it this way: would those six players have made the draft if they had played at another school?  Maybe some, but I doubt all of them.  The more obvious possibility is that Sr was a great coach that molded great players rather than some black ops DI recruiting strategy.

And booster club payments under the table don't hurt either...
