Now I understand why you'd rather ice fish than go to Salem...

So what is your excuse???  ;)

OZ - I couldn't help noticing during the coverage of the "incident" in Sydney, there was a sign near the Lindt's where the trouble was, that looked like a restaurant named "Burger Bro?" was near that shop. I have made it a policy not to go to eateries that are questions, exclamations, or other  parts of speech not nouns. What's the deal? Are they asking if you want a burger? Maybe you do, but should you go there for one? Don't they know whether it's a burger or not?

Clear this up for me.

That area is still blocked off by the po-lice. I'm up again next week and will check it out if I remember.

That does look like fun, DOC.  I've never hauled anything that big through the ice, but it is a rush.  I haven't been ice fishing in a few years, though.  I'm not a fan of the cold.

Kevin Burke just became the first two-time Gagliardi award winner.  Kevin is a great guy, very skilled and competitive player, a person driven to give back to the community, and a kid with a lot of class so he makes a great representative of the Gagliardi award named in honor of one of the greatest football coaches in the country and a leader of men.

Probably has "beetroot ..."

I generally avoid restaurants that have non-local  places in their name, i.e. New York Pizza.  On a side note, I had a very nice meal and great drinks  at Jimmy's in Minnetonka on a recent trip back and later learned it was Johnnie-owned.

I've gotta say that I've become quite partial to a 'burger with the lot'.

I just noticed that below his Avatar, OZ has the  phrase/questin "Lager, mate?"  Is he, in fact, the inspiration for "Burger Bro?"

I've heard the argument that Mount Union gets D1 talent to play for them, but I've never bothered to research it.

How many guys on their roster are D1 transfers?

Just because they don't have any D1 transfers doesn't mean they don't have D1 talent players. Just looking at recent history there have been about a half dozen players from Mount Union that have played in the NFL (or at least have been on a roster at one point). If you are good enough to get drafted by the NFL I would say qualifies as D1 talent. :)

D1 recruits are kids with D1 size/talent coming out of high school.   Not after playing 4 years of college football.

Most of the D3 players that people identify as being a "D1 talent" grew into that during college.

I suppose it also depends on your definition of talent. To me, either you have the talent or you don't, you don't really grow into talent (size yes, talent, no - there again depends on your definition of talent). I think that coaches can refine talent but kids don't necessarily grow into talent. I guess I didn't really consider the question to be just about getting D1 recruits - but rather about D1 talent playing for them at some point in their career. So if a player eventually is considered D1 talent and he doesn't transfer to a D1 school, he is still playing for them with D1 talent, right?

To my knowledge Mount does not have any D1 transfers on the roster. I could be wrong - I have been before. As far as the past goes - I can not think of 1 of the Mount "greats" that was a D1 transfer. And depending on your definition of "great" Antoine Dillard is the only strong D1 recruit in the group (he was recruited by Texas). Some of the greats that come to mind: Kevin Burke, Ballard, Borchert, Bubonics, Kmic, Moore, Pugh, Garcon, Shorts, Collins, Driskell, Jason Hall, Russ Kring, Larry Kinnard, Kevin Knestrick, Gary Smeck, Adam Marino, Matt Campbell, Chris Kern, Jason Lewis, Larry Kinnard, Adam Irgang, Matt Fechko - good lord too many. Any way - none of them were D1 transfers. I don't even think they were recruited (except for Dillard).
The only name that comes to mind with getting alot of D1 transfers to their program WAS KC Keeler  8-) at Rowan.

Jus to put my two cents worth in... typically Mount does not have many D1 transfers on their roster. If you look at their skill players on this years team for example they are all home grown talent. Burke played for a local high school and did not receive many, if any major offers. He did however win a state championship his senior year against a team that was led by a guy named Braxton Miller.....the QB at Ohio State. Two of the receivers are kids who came to Mount as freshmen to play QB, but some guy named Burke was ahead of them so they moved to another position to get on the field. The other two wide outs are four year players at the school from the beginning.   Even Pierre Garcon was a transfer...but from another  D3 school! Cecil Shorts was also a local Cleveland kid who came as a QB but found a calling at WR. The current running backs are all coming up through the system. You have to give credit to the coaching staff for identifying skills and placing them where they can best be utilized. There have been examples of offensive players switching to defense if they could play more or help the team. I give credit to  Mounts success on an incredible recruiting and coaching job. They find great kids and make them greater. ;)
