I'm trying to read the Game of Thrones books over the summer because I got into the TV series and am interested in getting ahead of the story. What a hard slog. I'm about to give up.

I'm back in the frozen north after spending a week in Jamaica.

I confirmed a number of things while there that I knew to be true, but my observations solidified my beliefs.

Top Five Things I Observed While in Jamaica
1.Canadians can drink....a lot!
2.When you are designing your tattoo(s) at age 20,consider what they will look like in the future. Most people think they will be young forever.
3.White people over the age of 21 should not braid their hair in "corn rows".
4.When your wife/fiancé'/girlfriend wants to dance, don't whine...shut up & dance. Guys can be stupid like this.
5.Jamacians will offer to sell you weed just about anywhere.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I'd argue that no white person, over or under the age of 21, should have corn rows.

And if you're not willing to dance with your wife/fiancĂ©/girlfriend, you obviously have not had enough to drink.  ;)

A tradition unrivaled...

I'd argue that no person over the age of 12 should have corn rows.

That's exactly what my girls call me.  Just before they ignore me.

Speaking of cornrows and being a curmudgeon...

I'm sitting with the family Oz in the airport waiting for our flight and there's a boy that's about five with six cornrows running forward and hanging down on this forehead. That's it. The rest of his head is cornrow free. He'll grow up to either be a mass murderer or an elephant carer in the circus.

As I watched the College Football Championship last night I couldn't help but notice that the NCAA logo was nowhere to be seen in the stadium or in the broadcast.
I got to thinking that when I watch the NCAA basketball tournament the logo is all over the place.
Can anybody out there come up with an answer of why it is absent?
Does the NCAA have no ownership of the championship??? What gives??

The NCAA Division 1 championship was won for the fourth consecutive time by North Dakota State.  The game last night probably found the best college football team but it did so without the NCAA.  Thankfully the real NCAA championships use a better process than putting 13 random people in a room and telling them to figure it out.

So the NCAA didn't sanction any of that event last night?

Sanctioned but not supported.  Nearly all of the money for the D3 championships comes from D1 March Madness.  If the FBS teams decided to run March Madness like they do the bowls and keep all the money for themselves, we'd see a much lower quality playoff system in D3.

I saw 2 white guys,in different locations, mid to late 20's with close cut hair except for the 3-5 braids (with bead work)hanging to the side of their heads. They appeared to be desperately trying to make some type of fashion statement. They both appeared to be the type to live in mom's basement until she is carted off to assisted living, then the dream of being a homeowner would be within their reach.

So, we're on a little family holiday. The TV has Nick. Nick has lots of episodes of a show called iCarly. iCarly is possibly the stupidest show ever made. If I have one more morning of iCarly my girls may come home dead.

This too shall pass.  My sons grew up with Barney - somehow I let them live (and was eventually happy with the decision). :o

Somewhat related.  I grew up listening to children's music by Raffi, which my kids now love, too.  Surprisingly, it's survived the test of time.  My wife was skeptical, but she's a convert, now, too.
