Based on this upcoming 2014 summer trip I think it's safe to say Glenn Caruso would like a do-over on last season.

I think the train came off the track when Mark Dienhart left UST.

I don't follow basketball, but I've been keeping one eye on the SJU coaching search.  What are the chances that SJU hires someone other than Pat McKenzie (aka the internal candidate)?  I'd place them at slim to none.
I can't reveal my sources but, there was a Lear Jet spotted leaving St. Cloud airport earlier today and allegedly Slim was on-board that aircraft.

And Coach McKenzie it is.

I am going to plug my other football team here. Today kicks off the Football Coaches Challenge where the football coaching staff has pledged personal donations of up to $250,000 in matching funds toward the University's PathwayOregon program. Pathway Oregon provides full tuition, fees and advising support for low-income Oregon residents. They are hoping to raise (with the matching funds) over half a million dollars. At a DI school, there are often lots of complaints about the amount of money spent on athletics/athletes. I think this is a great way for the Coaches and the Athletic Department to give back to the general student body and to promote a program that makes college a reality for many kids who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford school (or have the support system in place to be successful). Granted, I am a little biased, but I think this is great! Go Ducks!

"Today, I'm going to the poo farm."

There's a sentence I never expected to hear. #2 is on a field trip to the Werribee sewage treatment plant.  The little tyrannies of high school make me laugh at times.

Did you tell her not to bring home any souvenirs?

"My daughter went to the sewage treatment plant and all I got was this crappy t-shirt" shirt? 8-)

Ha!  Very clever. I would wear that shirt.

Based on this upcoming 2014 summer trip I think it's safe to say Glenn Caruso would like a do-over on last season.

Here's an excerpt that shows the itinerary:

"We are extremely proud to be able to take our young men to Italy and utilize our great sport to open their eyes to new cultures and continue to add tremendous experiences is to their collegiate careers," said Caruso of their experience. "As the region's largest Catholic institution and one of the oldest as well, this is an exceptional opportunity for us to visit an area of the world that many consider to be the hub of Catholicism and among the most culturally rich societies in the world."

The 13-day trip will take the team to cities like Rome, Sorrento, Naples, Positano, the Isle of Capri, Pisa, Cinque Terra, Montecatini, Florence, Milan, Como and Torino. The team will also spend time at UST's Italy campus, the Bernardi Campus, in the heart of Rome, one mile from of the Vatican.

I wonder how much it costs to take the whole football team on a two week adventure around Italy. Is the trip being sponsored by a donor or paid for by the university?

I wonder who Saint Glenn has been speaking with that doesn't consider the Vatican to be the "hub of Catholicism".

That aside, it's a great trip.

I've always thought the Vatican was in that area of the world.  Somewhere in Rome near the Bernardi Campus I think.  But I've never been there so I could be mistaken.   ;)

They aren't taking the entire team. The full team is taking an international trip to Canada the 1-2 weeks prior to this one. The Italy traveling roster will be smaller than a typical regular season traveling squad and they'll be joined by family and supporters of UST.

With such a small team I have a hard time imagining this nugget from the UST story is true: The tour culminates with a game against one of the country's best football teams: the Giaguaire Torino. Would you really risk playing a game at less than full strength against a quality opponent?

And for the record, this is a summer 2015 trip, not 2014. I know Pat doesn't like us to point our errors by SIDs, and the majority of them work very hard, but when I have a chance to dig on Glenn, and reference the 2014 win for SJU, I can't pass it up.

The Turin Jaguars are currently eleventh out of twelve teams in the Italian Football League.

Turin is beautiful, though, and I wouldn't mind a visit there.

Mr. Ypsi

And the Italian Football League, I suspect, would be at best a mid-level D3 league.  Now, of course, if they were playing what most of the world calls football ... ;D

So does that make them the equivalent of Martin Luther or UM-Morris of the UMAC?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Well okay, I'm not really sure how to interpret this, if serious seems to me a case of feeling a little too good about yourself.  From footballscoop.com, a website that lists coaching openings and appointments and teams seeking games, the Tommies appear to be soliciting to play a DI/FCS team:

QuoteSt. Thomas (D-III – MN): University of St Thomas is looking for a game vs. a DIII, NAIA or DI-FCS opponent for week 2 of 2016-2017 (9/10/16 & 9/9/17). Details as far as home and home and possibility of paying expenses can be discussed via email or phone. Contact Glenn Caruso at caruso@stthomas.edu or 651.962.5908.

Really?
