Just about to head out the door and make the drive to Collegeville to pick the little one up from Leadership Camp.  Really looking forward to spending a day on the most beautiful campus in
....... the  world  :)

You might be right....it was an absolutely glorious day to be in Collegeville.  Almost didn't want to come home.
It was so peaceful up there today.  I snapped a few photos.

Neat pictures.  So was the gym from the set where games used to be played?  Was there more seating in there at the time if so?

Yes the Old Gym (Rat Hall / Guild Hall) was where played basketball until 1972.  It was built in 1901 and was probably state of art for the time period.  I'm pretty sure there was more seating at one time.  I believe SJU Prep still plays games there.

Yeah, it had a lot more seating, including bleacher sections at both ends. Plenty of memories, nearly all basketball hijinx that would make most of the modern stunts look tame. But also a concert with REO Speedwagon opening for Canned Heat and beer-lubricated bowling tournaments on the lane with the manual pin-setter.  We told Brother Willie we were the extramural team practicing for nationals.

Now feeling very old ...

Based on Spilled Grain's website, former SJU d-lineman from the late-90s/2000 era, Josh Hart, is a part-owner.
The Hart family is very entrepreneurial, they own a commercial door company for automotive shops, car washes, warehouse shipping docks etc.., a lawn sprinkler company, a small apple orchard, a driving range so why not an interest in a craft brew pub. 8-)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Check this out....Indiana has some of the greatest old gyms in the country.  One of these days I'm making a road trip down there to check some of them out.

I saw that as well.  I would have loved to see REO in that hall.  Time For Me to Fly baby!

What a phenomenal blog.  This is my favourite post.  It made me look up the commercial again and watch is straight away.  A great read.

It was a great concert. First big show in the new place was the fairly forgettable Nitty Gritty Dirt Band but the warm up was a very young Steve Martin.

What?  Maybe I was too busy hitting the books but I can't remember anything close to these lineups when I was on campus (graduated in '93).  We had a speech by the League Against Ubiquitous Gender Harm that I skipped, but that's about all I can recall.

I recall my folks mentioning Neil Diamond playing at SJU, too.  A quick Google search confirms that he played there in October of 1970.  Awesome.

Well hey, as long as I am now a Kimball resident, maybe we should just meet there for a group taste.

I thought your residence was in rural Marty. Kimball must be the post office serving rural Marty.

And yes, a group tasting could be arranged. I did discover they are currently open Thurs.-Saturday.

Makes me thirsty just thinking about it.
And yes, a Kimball address, complete with a mailbox out by the road. But live at Pearl Lake. Only the tourists call it Marty. Old timers around here hate that name.

Just purchased Kickoff 2015!. Now I get to read how my squad is expected to fare with Wartburg, Bethel, Whitewater and the rest of the WIAC on the schedule. Brutal. Maybe not so good.  :-X

But, for a measly $11 I feel good about supporting this site and look forward to the season.

BTW, Bethel and Wartburg are home games for me. If any regular poster of these schools wants to hang with me I've got 4 seats on the 50 and I'll be glad to host. Just PM me.

As did I.  Wonder if Pat would be able / willing to post a leaderboard for conferences with the most purchases based on the "favorite team" selected?

There's usually a blurb on the front page sometime in the run up to launch that identifies the top 5 or so school fan bases that have subscribed.  I don't think I've seen conferences identified that way though.
