How is there a list of sports movies on the MIAC board that doesn't include Nacho Libre?

History is being made this weekend as the first born and raised American, 6'7" Jason Holmes, takes the field for St Kilda against Geelong. There are four or five Americans in the system here. I reckon we'll see more if this over the next few years.

EDIT: This photo shows him playing for the Sandringham Zebras, not the Box Hill Hawks which are Hawthorn's minor league team. The uniform has a blue cuff on the collar. I have no idea what they do about jumper clashes when the two sides play.

There was a good article a couple of months ago (can't recall whether it was in The Age or the SMH) about efforts to find centers and power forwards on American basketball teams who could make the move to Aussie Rules as ruckmen. It sounds as though Holmes may be leading the charge. Good luck to him, especially as my Saints could probably use the help.

Looks as if the guy in red and blue isn't wearing a mouth guard? Gutsy.

That is cool.  I had somehow come across his name earlier and he'd been training forever but hadn't made it to space. Very cool.

Besides American Graffiti being a good movie, George Lucas graduated from the high school where I teach.
