Best coming of age movie for me is "Stand By Me" - for a number of reasons, some I could share and some I would not, because I could relate so well to what was happening in the story.

You guys might need to check the definition of a 'Coming of Age' movie.  ???

Does "The Graduate" fit your definition?

From Wikipedia: "In genre studies, a coming-of-age story is a genre of literature and film that focuses on the growth of a protagonist from youth to adulthood ("coming of age"). Coming-of-age stories tend to emphasize dialogue or internal monologue over action, and are often set in the past."

More a reaction to Porky's and Animal House being 'Coming of Age.'

Some classic Coming of Age movies, IMO:

American Graffiti
Dead Poets Society
October Sky
The Sandlot
Juno
The Goonies (can you tell I'm a product of the 80's  ;D)
BIG
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Stand By Me (already Mentioned, but it's a classic in the genre)
The Wood
The Outsiders

It's a great genre...

If you read "The Real Animal House" by Chris Miller (the basis for the screenplay/movie), it really is a coming of age story (much distorted by the film version)...and a great read.

Also, another great coming of age novel that really was distorted by the film...October Sky (Originally written as Rocket Boys)

What happened to beer and FOOTBALL? :)
I'll bite.  Although they'll be good, I don't think Concordia will contend for the conference title this year.  My guess is that with virtually their entire offense back Gustavus takes their place and pushes St. Thomas, Bethel, and St. John's.  Maybe what most were already thinking, but makes an already competitive conference even more so.

I'll nibble a bit - I think BU is going to have to work at staying in at least third spot this year. They'll have to knock off the Tommies or the Johnnies to hang on to second place in the conference and if they lose to Wartburg, they'll probably be left on the table as a pool C bid.

Did I just say that? Talking about the playoffs before the first whistle is blown in the season? Yikes!!!

PTI, but if I could only have one food for the rest of my life it would be Pez. Cherry-flavored Pez. No question about it.
And what the hell is Goofy?

A real coming-of-age film, literally and figuratively speaking, that came out last year was Boyhood. The main character, Mason, grows up before our eyes, as the story was filmed with the same cast over 12 years, from Mason's age of 6 to 18, when he goes off to college... It won some awards; I'd give it a B+...

Yeah, I think it is going to be a fun ride with more interesting and top of the standings impacting games than we're used to.

UST will be interesting...Gould looked good at times at QB last year, but they weren't a terribly consistent group as a team.

As you pointed out, will this be the year that Gustavus makes a leap into the top 4?  The certainly seem primed, at least offensively.  Cobbers are almost always competitive, and my Royals could compete for a top spot if the QB position shakes out favorably.

At this point, I'd go with Frank Rajkowski's prediction of SJU taking the MIAC, but probably not coming out of the regular season with a perfect record.

I wanted to take a moment here as we go into our final crunch time on Kickoff 2015 to thank the MIAC fans for their support of Kickoff 2015. You guys and the NWC have supported the site and our ongoing coverage of Division III football very nicely so far this season and Keith and Ryan Tipps and I really appreciate it. If you haven't subscribed yet, earlier is always better than later!

I attended the Johnnie Kick Off Luncheon today to hear about the incoming Freshmen (86 strong) and to get updates of who is back and where there are vacancies due to graduation. Then off to watch the team practice. The highlight was while watching the team practice a member of the 1965 National Championship team along with John Gagliardi came and sat down to watch just like the rest of us fans. Listening to John tell stories about his life as a football coach was priceless.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Coming of age movie:  How many of you are old enough to remember "Summer of 42"?

I've never seen it. Hitting on the serviceman's wife, eh?
