MIAC 6 games won versus non-conference opponents 0 games won in 2015 going into tonight's games. I hope Augsburg can stay a little closer to the Knights this year when they play later tonight.

It's hard to believe it's game week already! :o

Well, sort of. You guys play Dubuque.

It might be closer than you think.

True.  Or it might be a double monkey stomp out!  :P

Duff might still have the double stomp portion right  :o

What was the final?

In other news, the knights beat Mac and took back the Book of Knowledge. Defense looked great only allowed one touchdown. Offense needs to hang on to the ball and finish strong on their drives

Honestly, we made your defense look great.  Right now we have no semblance of an offense whatsoever.  Special teams were the only thing keeping us in the game (although our kicking situation leaves much to be desired)

Yeah, I'll give you that. Some dropped passes that could've been big gains, a lot of poorly thrown balls by the QB's, either way I way I was happy with the D (except the linebackers)

With the heat today, I couldn't drag myself away from the lake to make the game, but I caught some of it via the Tune In app.  I like the way the Johnnies took care of business, and there even seemed to be a passing game!

I am glad that Augsburg played Wartburg close. My take is that this will bolster the collective confidence of the Royals into putting up a W at Royals Stadium next week when the Knights come for a visit. I hope to be at that game to see it go down as a minor upset at the beginning of the 2015 season.

In other news around the conference, I am surprised and impressed at some of the score differentials that the MIAC put up as a whole this weekend. I've already voted on the front page of the D3 website that the MIAC had the better weekend this opening week.

Was in attendance at Johnnies vs. Dubuque yesterday.  A couple of quick comments:

The numbers looked pretty good for the SJU passing game, and I want to stay positive on Martin.  He missed a couple wide open receivers, one of which would have been a sure long bomb TD.  He's still a work in progress as a senior.

A QB dilemma I see for the Johnnies - it's nice to have a senior back-up QB in Johnny Benson, should something happen to Martin.  But they really need to get next year's QB, whoever it is, some experience and PT.  If they have a good season, and the opportunity to get the starters out, it will be tough to decide how much PT to give to Benson vs. Gunnar or whoever else needs to be evaluated/given experience.

Kai Barber looked very solid in the backfield for the Red.  I'm guessing he'll be much more prominent as the season goes along.  Threw one awesome block for Sura around end, and good lead blocking on several others.  Ran nice a couple times and handled passes.  A keeper.

The D backfield at times seemed to give up some easy ones, but bend don't break was the overall effect.  Nice set of experienced guys there.

The O line seemed to be able to move out some rather large Spartans.  Johnnies are not overly large, but seem to get the job done.

As always, I wish for bigger LB's, like Matuszka, but you know, Carter Hanson is a stud!  The man can hit and bring down the opposition.

Topic of discussion in Sec. 104 - how long is the Rhino Deck going to be "new", as in, "be sure to check out the new deck behind the press box by Rhino Deck".  Seems like it's ten years old by now!   :)

Or that Air Auggie is better than expected?  If so, their addition would only serve to make the MIAC race all the more fun this season.

The Wartburg passing game makes me nervous, as Stout's QB was able to move the offense pretty effectively at times.

Looking forward to being in attendance for the home opener!

Good week for the MIAC. Looks like Augsburg hung with Wartburg all game. Every conference team ranked in the top 25 moved up:
SJU (+1) to #8, that team from the corner of Cretin and Summit (+2) to #12, Bethel (+1) to #19, and Concordia started receiving votes to be in the top 25.

It is interesting that MUC(k), despite winning big (a 47-0 double stomp out) and UWW and LIN not even playing, lost two first place votes, one to each of UWW and LIN.  I wonder what voters were looking for?  A triple stomp out?
