That #24 for Augsburg is the real deal.  I have no idea how he landed at Augsburg, but he would make any team he played for better.

I'm not sure Wartburg could have held him in check if the clock hadn't been a concern with Augsburg on their last two possessions.

This thing reminded me of a Battle of the 'Burgs wrestling meet.  Close the whole way and in doubt until the very end.

Yes. Battle of the 'Burgs, football version.

Where have all the Cobbers gone? Just checking in here to lend a little maroon and gold to the board once again. Nice opener all around for the conference teams. Cobbs rolled well with the new QB. Looking for a jam at the top again this year. Meanwhile, keep on keepin' on.

I'm taking the Johnnies to beat BV in a monkey stomp this weekend.  I learned my lesson last week against Dubuque.  I think these Jays will be able to pile on a few points this year.

I think that's a good bet.  Will they get the double, though?  And what's the over/under on beaver jokes this week?  ;D

USTBench

Not sure what to make of UST's game Saturday night.

On paper it looks like it wasn't the easiest of days in the rushing department, but with Jack Kaiser and now USD transfer Jordan Roberts (who ran for 101 yards on NDSU once, so take that for what it's worth) it seems like a tandem that could wear on you eventually. Neither one of them are small.  Also, I would suspect that made John Gould and Charlie Dowlde's day infinitely easier, 4 catches for 200+ yards and 3 TDs easier for Dowdle.

My only hope this year is when things get tough for UST, as they will against Concordia, SJU and Bethel, they aren't so quick to abandon the run as I kind of felt they did last year at times. Kaiser and Roberts will be a tough load in the 4th quarter, and UST always has a big o-line.

Defense was...stalwart, again. But, UWEC figures to be in the cellar of the WIAC again this year, so...not sure what to make of that.

Duff & Oz- Double, I say yes. Gary's theory is that the greatest improvement in a team comes from game 1 to game 2 and then steady improvement the rest of the season. These guys are on film in live game action. They can see the mistakes that were made at full speed.

From my vantage point in the stands, the long (20 yd. +) passing game needs help. Clark & Bungum could have had a couple more TD's if the ball would have been delivered on time & on the number. Being forced to jump or dive to make a play on a pass is the "little bit" that can make the difference in a tight game.

Run defense needs some tweaking- these adjustment seem a bit easier because it appeared that somebody made the wrong read on a couple of straight ahead runs.

The D-line was still in open audition last Saturday for the guys who will be rotating in. I'm confident that has been hashed over and this week in practice will be intense.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

You heard it here!

Hopefully, the Johnnies aren't too hard on the Beavers.

Yes, I think I'll be doing the same.  I figured they'd win by 20+ over Dub, but felt a little more iffy on them covering the 28 point spread....I think I'll have to pick them to cover vs. Buena, which means they'll likely only win by 27.

Old Auggie -

Did you attend or watch the Aug - Wart game?  Interested in your takeaways...lots of points given up, just like last year, but vs. what is supposed to be a very good Wartburg team.  Looks like the Auggie offense will be plenty, but can they stop anyone on defense?

The Schrader - Domeyer (I'm sure I've mis-spelled the QB - RB duo) were very good last year, but they graduated a very good receiver, and I'm curious if that showed at all?
