It's hard to tell how much additional attention the game is getting outside of the Johnnie & Tommie communities.

I've had several people at work ask me about it.

I'm completely interested in it.
I think it's nearly as big for D3 as the UWW v Morningside game was last night.  It's not just the rivalry, it's the quality of the teams and the incredible setting- which I believe will be clearly evident on ESPN's show.
Unfortunately at 6:00am it's still dark so they'll have to have the lights on which will make the natural bowl hard for the viewing audience to see.  Hopefully as the sun rises later in the program the cameras are able to pick that up.

Story on the Johnnie-Tommie rivalry on ESPN.com:

Here's a fun stat:

"History favors the Johnnies. And Pope Francis' visit won't help the Tommies.
They're 2-7 against Saint John's in years when a pope has visited America."
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

dlippiel

dlip is really looking forward to watching this great game on Saturday. He's bringing the ****ing ipad to Union so he can watch the game while watching the Union/SLU game from the 50. dlip is hoping for an injury free record crowd type rivalry game. Best of luck to both teams on Saturday...however dlip is pulling for the Jonnies big time!

faunch

Anybody else having trouble concentrating or focusing on anything else but 1pm tomorrow in Collegeville?  I don't think I'll sleep tonight...thinking I should just drive up after the Hopkins / Wayzata game and sleep on an air mattress in the back of my suv.

If I were single, I'd seriously consider it.  :o

I wonder if Sara Walsh will be making an appearance at The La tonight?

Retired Old Rat

I'm thinking about getting a hotel nearby and driving up tonight.

Interesting fact from the UST football website:

"Either St. John's or St. Thomas has won or shared the conference football title in 20 of the last 26 seasons."

Surprisingly, no mention that 16 of those 20 were won by St. Johns.

Another interesting fact I'd like to highlight:

St. John's, Mount Union and Whitewater have won 18 out of the last 20 Stagg Bowls.

And between the two schools they have four national championships.

Actually that should be 17 out of the last 20. Wisconsin-LaCross (1995),  Pacific Lutheran (1999) and Linfield (2004) are the other 3. Or saying 17 of the last 19 would also be correct.

I don't see Bethel in that list.  :P

Thought BU had a chance 2 years ago until QB went down against Wartburg. It'll happen and hopefully soon.
