Well, the d3football.com Top 25 is out and the Johnnies took a bit of a hammering.  As expected, unfortunately.

UST up 3 to #9
SJU down 9 to #16
BU up 3 to #20

Others receiving votes:
GAC got 12

I realize you know this, but it's probably a good reminder for all of us, there's a ton of season left. Bethel, UST and GAC, but even SJU and the Cobbers, all to a certain degree, still control their own destiny.

The MIAC non-con record is going to be a boon when it comes to Pool C. If any team survives with only 1 loss on their record, they'll be in very good shape.

And as we've seen, year in year out, we just don't know how the league race will play out. I think UST looks like the team to beat at this point. And in some ways, SJU is in a better position than Bethel. They're 1-1 against two of the big dogs and unbeaten in non-con. Bethel still has all the horses left to play. That said, it was really helpful that we got to ease Anderson into the starting gig against Olaf and Carleton.

Again, the picture I find more humorous than offensive. If Tommie fans can find another team doing a similar thing -- in a game that didn't involve someone tying the all-time victories mark (and I'm going to just assume that even in that game Gagliardi wasn't acting like Mathew Brady in setting up the thing) -- I'll happily admit it doesn't seem like an odd thing to do. But I don't think it's classless.

I pretty much echo repete when it comes to SJU broadcasts. Duff knows my feelings about some of the SJU gamecalls as well ("picked off! Dropped."). That said, yesterday I got a text from my uncle -- neither a Tommie or a Johnnie -- who said he had to turn the game off because Dave Lee "was even more annoying than usual." So different broadcasters can bring out different feelings in different listeners.

Great win for the Tommies. And impressive. It was actually the type of game SJU won many times last year; passing game basically nonexistent but solid D and dominant running game. You'd think eventually St. Thomas will need more production from the passing game but maybe that combination is enough to win the MIAC again.

I also agree with 105 about SJU quarterbacking, although I think I'd put Boyle in the category of guys who made things happen out of nothing, if a notch below Kofoed. But some of the plays and victories he pulled off in 08-09 were as good as anything others have done when it comes to Johnnie Magic. But yeah, there's definitely been a difference in that spot compared to what SJU was used to from like 1989-2007. Of course, if SJU does find another Kofoed, hopefully fans actually appreciate him this time instead of begging for his graduation...

Linfield in their road whites. Also, I have absolutely no problem with this.

This past week went pretty much like I expected it to; in that two games were blow-outs, one was the sling fest I expected and the one that I predicted would be closer and go the other way, was a surprise to me and sets up the coming weeks play for the remainder of the season, if your team is in the play-off hunt. It's much too early in the season to begin trying to figure out who's going to end up where in the MIAC and get into the post-season - counting chickens before hatching and all that.

For the upcoming week we have Augsburg taking the bye week.

St. Olaf comes up to play at O'Shaughnessy stadium. Once St. Thomas has this game in hand, oh say after about 10 minutes of play, the Tommies will be able to play all the rest of their players that suit up this coming Saturday.

Gustavus goes down to Carleton, for the other game that looks to be a blow-out this coming Saturday. I hope for Carleton's sake, that the team that played tough against Augsburg shows up, not the one that Bethel demolished last week.

St. John's goes down to Hamline, who is coming off a an extra week of rest, not that it will help them much. This game could be a little tighter because the Johnnies are coming off a tough loss to the Tommies, but they'll play through it and win by a couple of scores, when it is all done and said.

The game of the week this week in the MIAC is Bethel travelling up to Concordia Moorhead. If Bethel can get in control of this game early by going up two or more scores in the first quarter - but by the half for sure, then the let-down they seem to have later in the game won't bite them in the butt. If it stays within a score until the end of the game, then it will be a toss-up depending on who has the ball. Wish I could afford the time to go up to this game to watch it in person.

Maybe Gustavus can get into the Top 25 with another win or two, but probably not until after the 17th when they face the Johnnies. Of course, that will mean beating the Johnnies up at St. John's. But that's getting ahead of ourselves again.

Tom Powers with this gem:

QuoteOn Sunday morning, Adrian Peterson became a father. In other news, the sun rose in the east and a Frenchman made a rude remark to an American tourist.

Little Axyl Eugene Peterson weighed in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces at about 9 a.m. It's the second child for Adrian and wife Ashley and the seventh (roughly) overall for A.P. So the extra point was good.

Duly inspired, Peterson was equally fruitful on the gridiron, rushing for 126 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Vikings to a solid 31-14 victory over the San Diego Chargers. Furthermore, Peterson carried 20 times and did not fumble. So, overall, it was a lovely day to be a Vikings fan and enjoy the game without a permanent seat license.

"My son was born early this morning, so that right there just kind of put things in perspective," Peterson said. "It was just like, wow, this is what life is really about."

Apparently, it never gets old.

ZING!!

Sorry, Bench. This one looks improvised, Tommies had high level of planning. Still weird!

(yes, I'm moving the goalposts...while thankful Tommies didn't tear them down at SJU because that's what F.A.M.I.L.I.E.S do and it's totally normal).

I heard next year UST is doing their team picture on Gary Fasching's front porch.

Might as well.  He's got a nice place.  It might be a little awkward after U$T loses, though.

Linfield in their road whites. Also, I have absolutely no problem with this.

Improvised and most player-led...just fine. But I have mixed feelings about the Linfield Head Coach in the front row showing his knuckles and 10 year old Stagg Bowl ring. Is that cool? Is that family/leadership? Is that a players' moment that coach might want to watch rather than join? IDK

And shortly after the game, and not centered on the host team logo, and it appears it's something they've been doing all season as they have a number of selfies on the site.  Subtle differences but still enough of them to argue that the pictures are not all that similar.

I agree "d-train" that the coach wearing the ring kind of spoils the shot.

Scene: The Caruso kitchen. Coach and Mrs. Caruso are getting their children ready for school. Mrs. Caruso hands each one a lunch box and their backpack as Coach Caruso gives each one a hug and a kiss as they leave the house and get on the bus to go to school. Outside across the street, Faunch is in his car with binoculars, a fake mustache and eating slice after slice of Johnnie Bread.

Faunch: So classless. Gags would give his kids a hug and a kiss and THEN give them their lunch. And a bus? Gags would walk his kids to school. Man, Gags was so classy.

/Flashback sequence begins to when Faunch shook Gags' hand at an alumni banquet. Dan Hill's "Sometimes When We Touch" plays softly in the background.

We now see Coach Caruso get into his car. Faunch can't believe his eyes, it's NOT the same car that Gary Fasching drives. Faunch gets out his note pad and writes "Classless Car" and triple underlines it. Coach Caruso then backs out of the driveway and Faunch tails him. Faunch follows Caruso for a few blocks and notices that Caruso put on his turn signal only 98 feet from his designated turn instead of the MNDOT's recommended 100. Faunch almost chokes on his Johnnie Bread. "How could a guy have any less class?" he thinks to himself. Caruso then parks in his designated parking space outside of the AARC.

Faunch: Unbelievable. A parking space? What is he, the pope? Gags and Fasching used old fashioned Johnnie hustle and grit to find a parking space AND despite there being a limited amount of parking space on campus STILL got the best spots. Just ordinary guys, using ordinary parking skills, extraordinarily well.

Cut to: Coach Caruso sitting in his office, drinking a cup of coffee and watching some game film. Faunch is wearing a UST maintenance uniform and still has on a fake mustache. He knocks on Caruso's door while carrying two halogen lights.

Faunch: Just here to change out the lights Coach Caruso.

Coach Caruso: Sounds good.

Faunch can feel the rage build up inside him as this was a test. Coach Caruso didn't insist that Faunch call him "Glenn" or get to know him. He then looks over and sees Caruso's breakfast sitting on his desk. An English muffin with jam. Faunch collapses. An aneurysm. Gags liked peanut butter on Johnnie bread. Before it all fades to black, Faunch's final thought is, "That breakfast is so classless. Just, no class at all."
