In all honesty, how many Kaisers and Waldvogels have played for the Tommies?  I swear there were Kaisers on the roster in the late 90s and there still are!

Yea, the Kaiser's you are thinking of are from Mora, their dad is (was- perhaps retired) a DVM, lots of cows around Mora. This current one is from Prior Lake. John worked in our shop emptying garbage and the like, good work for a Tommie, between his Jr. & Sr. year. He is in your class Duff, last year of FB was 2002.

Well, he's now a Sourcing Analyst/office linebacker for Target Corp with an MBA from the Carlson School of Management at the U of M. He's also a black belt in every martial art.

Is that a threat?  :o

Boys of Fall

I'm a little surprised that Caruso's action's continues to get under the skin of so many Johnnies.  Holding hands coming onto the field, bringing the non-traveling players entourage, calling the late timeout with the subsequent delay of game, being hoisted onto shoulders after the game, and taking the picture on the SJU logo should be expected by now.  He has a different coaching philosophy than most Johnnies are accustomed to.  While Fasching likes to be in the background teaching humility and character, Caruso likes the limelight, glitz, and glamour that can come with college football.  Who's to judge if one is right or wrong or better than the other, seems like it's a personal preference.  Maybe this adds to the current rivalry.  I guess if the Tommie players (and their parents) are okay with what Caruso is teaching and if the Johnnie players (and their parents) are okay with what Fasching is teaching all is good.

Target's laying off folks, so it's not much of one if it is.  :)

Before you dismiss it as another link, be sure to take 10 seconds and read the whole thing. John Kaiser shreds.

Sidenote: Jon Just was the first person I ever met at UST (outside of orientation), on my first day of camp in 2000. Just and Kaiser were best buds, and this was probably the most emotional game I ever watched in my life. Never seen anyone play like that before. It was surreal to see. Once again, John Kaiser shreds.

Speaking of "good work for a Tommie", how poetic was the Sportscenter feature of Kirchner wishing Johnnie good luck and Schneider coming in, pushing him out of the camera shot saying that Kirchner worked for him while wishing the Tommies well?! I'm certain that ruffled some red undies!!! Mass broadcast of another example of a John taking orders from a Tommie!

Still a goalpost in the backyard at the Kaiser homestead I believe.

Bench, was John Kaiser a 4 year starter? I'm off on the timing,I thought he was Duff's class but must be 2 yrs. younger. Then amendment, he worked for us between Freshman & Sophomore year. Good kid, I always liked messing with him & another Tommie that worked for us that summer.

The AFL's Brownlow Medal was awarded last night. It's for the "Best and Fairest" player. Qualifications are that you do well (umpires award votes after each game) and you're not disqualified through suspension or penalty.

Of course, everyone is really hanging out for the girlfriends on the red carpet.  Some typical Aussie hotness on display.

Huh?

If there is such a thing as right and wrong (and of course there is), then there is a thing such as better and worse. I have no idea if the bolded sentence above is accurate.  But if it is, then I am perfectly comfortable saying Coach Fasching is doing the most important part of his job really well and Coach Caruso is an idiot.

He came and was slated as a starter right away as a freshman in 2000, but if I remember he got injured pretty quickly. I think he got injured one other year too. Time has affected the memory, but long story short he got an extra year out of it.

Congrats to Coach Caruso on career victory 489. Next week should be special as he goes for 490.

Like it or not, the 50 yd line & logo is part of the unwritten rules of sports...don't walk across the pitchers mound, kick the ball out of bounds when an opponent goes down in soccer, etc. I'm honestly not bothered by the exact position of the photo, and it looks like they could use some alignment help. Though for many I think they see the fact of doing it at that spot, well after the game was over, as a sign of disrespect.

...

In all seriousness, Saturday's victory was a major career milestone for Caruso & Co.  It was their first time beating Head Coach Gary Fasching.

When we look back at the Fasching-Caruso Era in the Johnnie-Tommie Rivalry 40+ years from now, I would be willing to bet Gary will have more games won than lost against the school on the corner of Cretin and Summit.

Keep in mind that a certain legendary coach was 1-4 against the Toms in his first five seasons in Collegeville.

Also, Brace Hemmelgarn did one hell of a job capturing the events of the day in Collegeville on Saturday:

I think I may have to drop him a line to see if I can pay him to have a few of these photos blown up so I can have them framed for my man cave.
