School has been in session for awhile now and these shortened season members of the F.A.M.I.L.Y. are now eligible to dress, and theoretically, participate in games. Just don't look for their names, numbers or bios on the roster as they don't exist. With such a large F.A.M.I.L.Y. it must be hard to keep track of everyone - though SJU somehow manages to do so.

The website isn't Caruso's responsibility. What you assume is intentional could just be typical sports information office overwork. SJU can do so but they have half the sports. :)

I don't think it's that big of a deal...it actually has a kind of "Rudy-esque" feel to it.  I can just picture little Rudy Tommie calling home to mom and dad back in Joliet.
"Yes, yes I'm really on the team."

"Why the hell aren't you on the roster?" hollers Dad. Hell I'm paying close to $50,000 a year in tuition.  C'mon home and work at the factory....you'll make foreman in no time."

I'm counting 136 kids on the roster. Seems like plenty.

I get the feeling that there is some emotional attachment to the anti-GC proposition. Sure, I despise the guy and every breath he's ever breathed but I'm not emotional about it. I'm sure his dog still licks his face. From time to time. Or at least once.

Anyway, let it go is my advice. 50 weeks or so until the next Johnnie/Tommie week. Just about time to start planning.

Why are there never any complaints about St Olaf's or Carleton's coaches?

They still have football teams?

And if those kids you cite knew this was going to be the situation wayyyy before camp even started?   And if the program was consistent in this application of this process over several succesive years?  Just sayin'....

except, some of these guys get a letter in the mail mid-July informing them they aren't invited to camp, but are more than welcome to be a tackling dummy once Sept comes around.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence these guys were strongly considering other MIAC teams, got sold on UST and playing time by Caruso, only to find out once its too late that they were sold a bill of goods. I assume there are guys who still show up in Sept. I know there are guys who realized what had happened and just ended up as students. There are more than few HS coaches who have been burned in this fashion.

Just sayin'...

This is a key point that is being over looked. You can call it the "Tim Brewster effect" some time in the future where there will be a tipping point and HS coaches will advise their kids to shop around and "kick the tires" so to speak. All that glitters is not gold.

The thing about D3 is that kids can transfer and play right away. Next week is Homecoming at SJU and GAC will showcase the talents of Mitch Hendricks at QB. Mitch was the odd man out at SJU after his Freshman year and he has had tremendous success at GAC. I'm happy for him. I just hope the Johnnie defense can keep him in check one more time. He beat SJU as a Sophomore.

But keeping on topic, the thing Glenn could promise his early recruiting classes was that they could play right away, and they did. I have no idea what his pitch is now,but if he's painting the play right away thing currently it will burn him in the end.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Just the opposite.  Any and every kid looking at the program knows way up front there's going to be competition and you're going to have to earn your way on to the field.  That's his pitch.  If GC was in fact burning HS coaches, that would have caught up with him by now.  Wouldn't make sense to bite the hand that feeds you.

Retired Old Rat

Peter Haugen at Gustavus is really an arrogant sob.  He thinks his team can actually beat SJU.  What arrogance.  Word on the street is he's already got a guy with a  drone lined up to take a post game photo of the his team at mid field.

It boggles my mind how many more skill position players see the field these days as opposed to when I played. I think Mike Leach said "I'd rather teach a kid 17 different places to stand than 500 different plays." Makes sense.

Mike Leach is an offensive football savant, some of the stuff he ran at Texas Tech was very innovative. The anger management issue got the best of him. Now at Washington State he is never afraid to make bold statements such as saying WSU has the best facilities in the conference....better than Oregon. He does this to jerk the chain of rabid Duck fans. Is it working Bennie?

Here is the box score from the AUG vs. Wartburg game this year. This seems like a good comparison since #9 UST and #6 WART appear to me anyway as similar teams. Instead of just throwing out 8 yds per carry I like to actually know what history we have and then make a prediction. WART has a very good QB, a Powerful RB and a big O line. I don't see any numbers here that suggest a anything other than a close game. You could assume that the Auggies of old would get beat up by UST, just like last years AUG team did vs. WART, but I think this box score suggests otherwise for the 2015 version. There have been injuries since this game on both sides I assume and that may make a difference but for now I see this as a good game Saturday. I would expect the UST crowd to count this as a win but my prediction is for a close game and AUG coming out on top.

Not sure the Wartburg comparison in 2015 vs. 2014 means much.  Wartburg doesn't seem to be the same team they were last year.  Through their first four games, against the same competition, they are only winning by a little over one touchdown this year compared to winning those games by nearly four touchdowns last year.

Was pretty much going to echo that. Very good chance they run the table in the IIAC this year, but I don't think they're nearly the same squad as 2014.

This box score is the 2015 game. I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer but help me out here. Why is the comparison of the 2015 #6 Wartburg squad to the 2015 #9 UST squad not  comparable?  Because they don't run up the score?

I think the argument is, Wartburg might be #6 now, but some of that is owing to last years run and where they started out in the pre-season poll. I agree, they're likely to go unscathed through the IIAC and regular season, but I don't see them making a run like they did last year. And I'd wager most MIAC followers would regard the 2015 UST team to be superior to the 2014 version.

Also, Wartburg isn't letting off the gas in these wins, they are in dog fights most weeks. UST has been in one competitive game all season (and that's not a knock on their opponents).

I'll also grant though, the 2015 Auggie team looks better than the 2014 team at this point. We'll find out on Saturday if that means they've narrowed the gap with UST in 2015.  :)
