Kind of surprised UST still only ranked 9th. Big road win at SJU, shut down an Augsburg team that gave Wartburg all they could handle. All I know is SJU should want UST to run the table, be ranked high and win every game big. I would put UST ahead of Wheaton, Wartburg (for sure) , Wesley and possibly UWO and UWW.

SJU wins out they are in. Lose one and they aren't. What UST does won't have an impact. If SJU wins out, GAC or Concordia can make it a three way tie if they were to beat UST. Tommies are in the driver seat and will be expected to win each of those games but I doubt you'll find the red & white rooting for them.

I think hazzben said it earlier in the week but, the last 5 weeks of the season is when we will see separation. UST plays BU & CCM in back to back weeks. GAC gets SJU,UST,CCM & BU in a row so a lot of thing can change dramatically in the next month. It should be interesting.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Never understood why teams do that.  Johnnies had Sura playing in 4th qtr last week when game was in hand.  No sense playing mvp when game is in hand.  Just plain stupid to do that!  Never want a player to get hurt but I don't feel sorry for coach when it happens in those situations. Have some common sense.

I think many coaches think you need experience playing the full 60 minutes, so you'll be prepared when you're needed late in playoff games.  There is a bit of truth in that, but it usually tells you more about what the coach thinks about the backup's lack of talent.

Thing is, they have at least two capable guys backing up Sura. Based on some past performance.

Actually, that's not quite true. A loss to a team ranked 1 or 2 in the region is better for the resume than a loss to a team ranked 5 or 6. When you're comparing what's likely to be a bunch of 1-loss teams nationwide, those things help and are definitely part of the selection criteria.

So, what I am reading is that SJURube is wrong.

Also, UST should be ranked higher than Wartburg.

I actually make extra cash by thinking of bumper slogan stickers.  Don't steal that one!

Pat is the definitive source on these boards so it's hard to argue.

There are 6 West teams ranked in the top 14 of the current D3 Top 25 - Linfield, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Whitewater, Warburg, UST, UW-Plattville & SJU. I know the Top 25 is separate from the regional rankings and are not used to select the playoff field but if SJU wins out they aren't falling back. And with 3 WIAC teams ahead of them it wouldn't be out of the question for them to jump at least one as those teams W/L against one another. And yes, I know there are the non AQ conferences that will also be sending teams to the playoffs.

An on the playoff fringe SJU team hasn't been left out of the playoffs in a long while and if 1 of 3 two-loss MIAC teams (Bethel, UST, Concordia) from last year was a cinch to make the playoffs I just don't see a scenario where SJU is left out...once again if they win out.

Tom Thumb

Anyone going to be around for the UST game this weekend? I'm stopping in Minnesota for a few days to visit family and wanted to catch the game. Just seeing if anyone on here will be around.

I'm surprised the Tommies didn't jump ahead of Wartburg, but maybe there's a silver lining to remaining outside the top tier. The team won't get cocky/rest on their laurels going into the latter half of the season. I'd much rather have the Tommies hungry, with something to prove entering the post-season (if they make it, of course). It's funny that, given the circumstances, the Johnnies wouldn't cheer for the Tommies. I'm not exactly a Johnnie booster, as is clear by my history on this board. However, I would cheer for the Johnnies if it helped the Tommies. Heck, I'd probably even head down to Salem if the Johnnies made it just to support the MIAC.

They were 52 points behind last week, 19 points now. It'll certainly happen if St. Thomas can handle Bethel better than Wartburg did.

I honestly think this defense is better than any I've ever seen at UST. They've given up one first half touchdown through 5 games, and that TD was the result of a turnover on their own 29. I know we're only at the midway point, but this squad feels different.

I'm just a west region fan poll voter; but I jumped the Tommies over Wartburg after the SJU game. I have them just above UW-O and UW-W this week - but I struggled a little with that decision.
