I totally get it; counting to 10 is difficult.

For those of us that went to fine institutions such as SJU and PLU, it's not too difficult.  ;D

A tradition unrivaled...
MIAC Champions: '32, '35, '36, '38, '53, '62, '63, '65, '71, '74, '75, '76, '77, '79, '82, '85, '89, '91, '93, '94, '95, '96, '98, '99, '01, '02, '03, '05, '06, '08, '09, '14, '18, '19, '21, '22, '24
National Champions: '63, '65, '76, '03

Kind of surprised UST still only ranked 9th. Big road win at SJU, shut down an Augsburg team that gave Wartburg all they could handle. All I know is SJU should want UST to run the table, be ranked high and win every game big. I would put UST ahead of Wheaton, Wartburg (for sure) , Wesley and possibly UWO and UWW.

I'm surprised the Tommies didn't jump ahead of Wartburg, but maybe there's a silver lining to remaining outside the top tier. The team won't get cocky/rest on their laurels going into the latter half of the season. I'd much rather have the Tommies hungry, with something to prove entering the post-season (if they make it, of course). It's funny that, given the circumstances, the Johnnies wouldn't cheer for the Tommies. I'm not exactly a Johnnie booster, as is clear by my history on this board. However, I would cheer for the Johnnies if it helped the Tommies. Heck, I'd probably even head down to Salem if the Johnnies made it just to support the MIAC.

That's so out of character for GC I don't see how it could happen.

I prefer this one:

Coach Caruso actually does have a similar mat with different FG fakes he can run when he's up big in the 4th quarter. He calls it his "Deliberately Upset SJU Fans' Sense of Moral Decency and Violate their Constantly Evolving Unrwritten Rules for Respecting the Game" Mat. Patent pending.

Consequently, I am also working on a prototype for a mat when SJU fans or Old Auggie accuse UST of running up the scores. So far I have such gems as, "He is just putting it on tape so teams have something to worry about;" "Well, if it bothers you so much, stop it;" (A favorite when playing St. John Fisher) "You don't see anyone in the NWC complaining when Linfield scores 70;" and my personal favorite "Gags used to do the exact same thing."

It sounds like you both are still struggling with step two: "Believe that a greater power can restore you to sanity." As stated so eloquently in Full Metal Jacket, "How about getting with the program? Why don't you jump on the team and come on in for the big [Tommie] win?" Do you need a sponsor?

This reminds me of an idea from a couple years back. I turn green with envy every time one of the Johnnie faithful wittily inserts a "U$T" or "UST(d)" into his or her post. It would be good to have something similar that truly captures the essence of Collegeville. I think the place can be distilled down to two words—Aw Shucks—or AS for short. So, here's my proposal: ASSJU.™ What does everyone think? There's also room to indicate the Johnnie's current MIAC standing. For example, ASSJU<#1.™

My friend Howard Goldberg is offended by that.

I was checking out the calendar on UST's "5th Quarter Club" page. Judging from the calendar and photos, it looks like UST has about 8 or 9 offense vs. defense scrimmages every Friday during the regular season for the freshmen and sophomores. Not sure if this is new or if they've been doing this for a while, but this is an improvement from the 3 or 4 Sunday scrimmages we used to have at UST. If I remember right, I think we used to scrimmage Bethel, Hamline, and maybe St. Olaf and that would be it for the younger guys on the squad. UST did a bad job of assessing and developing talent that was on their roster. It seems like these additional scrimmages really gives the younger guys an opportunity to develop and see what they can work on by getting some reps on film.

I may be out of the loop, but do the JV teams still scrimmage in the MIAC like they used to? Just curious.

Bethel used to scrimmage UST, Concordia, St. Olaf, GAC and sometimes northwestern on a regular basis on Mondays. When I was an upperclassman I remember the JV playing UST twice a year a few times. One home, one away. I'm assuming Bethel still plays a JV schedule, but it sounds like UST might not be one of the teams involved.

According to Coach Joe Lepsche's twitter page (https://twitter.com/CoachLepsche), it sounds like UST recently received a commitment from a solid recruit. Should be interesting to find out who he is.

In addition, Hunter Holmes, a sophomore punter from Arkansas State, appears to be making his way to UST next year: https://twitter.com/hunterh24/status/646485884775215105

I like how Lepsche's post refers to the recruit as a solid "leader." Speaking of leadership, I was in the Twin Cities last week and ran into a couple of guys at the local watering hole who've sent their kids to Caruso's summer camp the last few years. I asked if the camp was helpful and they all said that aside from football skills, their kids were taught invaluable lessons on leadership. Pretty cool.
As you're probably all aware, at Edor Nelson field you sit right behind the visitor's bench during the game, which I did Saturday and was able to pick-up on some of Caruso's leadership.  He has a special teams mat (about a 3 yd by 7 yd mat with ten purple dots on it - apparently the punter/kicker can't go on the mat) that before each special team's play those to go out on the field need to stand on, on their specific dot.  Needless to say, they never got called for too many men on the field.  The leadership those guys are learning to get on the right dot was impressive.
Wake up please....I've been going to high school games for many years and have seen these mats on the sidelines on high school and college sidelines numerous times over those dates.  To that end I can't believe that a kid on punt or kick coverage wouldn't be ready to go...it might be his only f---ing chance on the field that day.  Why the hell you would need to buy a mat for that simpleton is beyond my level of comprehension?

And that, right there, is the GC advantage.  He's far beyond your comprehension.

Plus, these dots only number 10.  The punter/kicker doesn't need to stand on one.  Let's see your high school dandies match them mooves.

EDIT: I have to say that your reflexive GC loathing is pretty entertaining.  Even when BoF is giving a tongue in check slag at GC you have to stick the boot in just to make sure.

JV talk is interesting.
A few years ago, at least, UMU had a full ten game JV schedule.
I'd say that helps a program, indeed.

Now that you mention it, we used to scrimmage Gustavus too. I remember Ryan Hoag on the sideline yelling about how he would burn me if he were on the field (I played CB). I will admit, I likely egged him on because I knew he had no more eligibility and I could say whatever I wanted.
