I have not been a very good hockey fan lately! :-[ Both of my main teams are sucking hard right now (Columbus and Anaheim). I am use to that with the Jackets, but I expect more from my Ducks! On a side note, I was chatting with this guy and he said that he didn't watch many different sports, but he was a hockey fan! Unfortunately for him, he was talking to me. I started complaining about the Jackets hiring Torts (I hate him) and got a blank look. Mentioned the Ducks and Sharks since the guy is from California... blank look. So I asked him who is his team. He told me he was a life long Red Wing fan, "since birth".  I asked him if Yzerman was still with Tampa and he didn't know who I was talking about!! I told him that part of the reason I started watching Columbus was because of Sergei Fedorov. He never heard of him. I mentioned the epic games between the Wings and the Avs, goalie fights and all. He was unfamiliar! You sir are not a Red Wing fan!!! Sometimes I feel like a poser because I have not been following the game as closely as I once did. Now feel better about myself! 8-)

You took this guy into the boards and gave him the business where the ref couldn't see. A regular bennie smack down. Hilarity!

North did take it to BBE last night.

As expected.  BBE is not a traditional football power.  Basketball, yes, but not football.
Coincidentally, North is playing at Clemens Saturday at 5 for the section title.

Pretty soon the section tournament will be called the state tournament,
This is already the case with the 6A tournament.  All 32 teams in the top class can put up state participation banners every year.
Actually, the first two rounds of the 6A tournament are considered the "section" games and only when they get to the quarterfinal games are they considered in the "State tournament".

And would you believe they gave out section championship and runner up trophies and medals tonight in class 6A?  Yes Hopkins finished 3-7 on the season but was awarded a team trophy and individual medals tonight because they won one playoff game last week but lost tonight.  Meaning in the big school class which is made up of 32 teams half of teams will get trophy.  Is that totally texas or what???  (http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-34622478)
I guess former Stillwater coach George Thole was right when he said they should just give everybody a trophy.
I suppose they buy those section trophies in bulk and have to find some way to give them out even when there is no section tournament.

There isn't another 3-7 team that could've beat Rosemount.   Maybe they should just have given everyone the trophies after winning the first game.  That way the kids don't look as depressed in their photos.

Each Johnnies trip to Carleton since 2008 always brings back memories of that game. By SJU standards the 2008 team wasn't a great one. However, they weathered close early season losses to Concordia & Bethel to set up a conference title game on the final day of the season - ultimately winning in the final seconds. On top of the win, that day was the first time my dad & my now (favorite) wife met. Go Johnnies and good luck to anyone meeting potential in-laws today.

No, you're probably right he's just a DB.

Tortorella is a funny guy, and I can't quite figure out how I feel about him. He's been on NHL Network this year, and he has some unique insights that aren't the cookie cutter cliches. I've heard that he's hard to get along with from former players, but, then, most seem to have a grudging respect.

Funny how both Anaheim and C'Bus were projected to be "in the mix" and both aren't performing up to expectations. Maybe you'll change your mind about Torts if they turn it around.

Looking at the stats from the SJU/Carleton game, I've come to the conclusion - and I know this is a shocker - Time of Possession doesn't mean squadoosh!

So, how in the hell did Carleton nearly knock off Concordia?  Did all the Concordia starters pull off an all-night bender at a strip club prior to the game?

Carleton came out real fired up versus the Cobbers and Concordia didn't.

And they had a game w/ Hamline today. I think they were able to play w/ SJU because of style, not necessarily overall ability. I imagine they'll take it on the chin against UST.

I couldn't agree with that assessment more. It was Carleton homecoming, and the Cobbers were sleepwalking, especially defensively. Herzog was only starting, I believe, his second game at QB. But mostly the Cobbs were just lifeless.

I am hoping Concordia was in "overlooking" mode today, with UST up next week. Cobbers looked like world-beaters in the second half versus Augsburg last week. Today, just as against Carleton, the defense couldn't stop the short passing game. That needs a quick fix or yes, next week will be ugly.
