I get no respect. A doctor told me I needed an operation. I said I wanted a second opinion. So he said, "You're ugly too."

Wide open and on your iPhone. It's a growing concern in Aus, the ease of betting. Apparently Australians bet more per capita in the ponies than everyone but Hong Kongers (or whatever they're called).  We have betting company commercials on TV like the States have Viagra and feminine products.

Can you bet with credit in Australia? In Vegas you have to set up an account at a licensed sports book and have money in the account prior to placing mobile wagers. Also, you can only place bets using your phone as long as you are in the state of Nevada.

OzJohnnie

Well, you can't bet directly with credit since you need to have money in your betting account with whichever agency you're with.  But you can put money in the account with your credit card so it's only one step removed.  And you can phone bet from anywhere in Australia.  You can bet from outside Australia by just putting a free VPN on your phone.

Hmm...  maybe betting is a bit of an issue here.

Hold the presses!  I was just reading an article on today's KC v Mets game and there was a link to Black Jack's 1991 game 7 complete game shutout.

I've got me some nostalgia to watch.

So, could Bethel get into the play-offs this season?

Step one: Win the last three games against Gustavus, St. John's and Augsburg. This gives them a 7 and 3 overall record and a 6 and 2 conference record.

Step two: St. Thomas loses their final 3 games against Concordia, Carleton and Gustavus This gives them a 7 and 3 overall record and a 5 and 3 conference record.

Step three: St. John's loses it's final 3 games against Augsburg, Bethel and St. Olaf. This gives them an overall record of 6 and 4 and a 4 and 4 conference record.

Step four: Concordia beats St. Thomas and then loses to Gustavus. This gives them an overall record of 7 and 3 overall and a 6 and 2 conference record. However, they beat Bethel in the head to head game, so they would be the conference champs.

So, even if all the above were to happen, Bethel will be sitting this post season out.

It's a similar scenario if the Tommies beat Concordia and then lose their final two games, as Bethel also lost to them.

I'll be at the Royal/Gustie game on Saturday cheering them on none-the-less.

Breaking news from AP:

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Federal authorities say a Minnesota man is a "person of interest" in the disappearance of Jacob Wetterling, whose mother became a national advocate for the cause of missing children after his abduction in 1989.

They made the announcement at a news conference Thursday. A 52-year-old Minnesota man was arrested Wednesday on several child pornography charges.

An application for a search warrant in that case says that authorities wanted to search for items including human remains, a red T-shirt with the name Wetterling on the back and a red hockey team jacket with the name Jacob stitched on the front.

The search was carried out July 28.

Wetterling was 11 when he was abducted Oct. 22, 1989, near his home in the central Minnesota community of St. Joseph.

Good luck Art. I will miss the AUG game at SJU this Saturday but will be at the Gopher/Michigan game that same night. I think the Bethel/AUG game at the end of the year will be intense even if the teams have nothing to play for. I assume Bethel will want to erase the memory of last years game and AUG will want to end the season on a good note. Not sure our defense can stop Bethel but we will probably try to out-score you.  Could be a fun game to watch.

Unbelievable. If they get the guy that snatched Wetterling then that will be one heck of a cold case get.  I didn't think there was a chance they would ever find the guy.

And if he's the guy and he does have the items named in the search warrant you have to wonder how he managed to stay uncaught for so long when he's so stupid.

Oz, I'm sure I'm not the only one on this board with friends or relatives on a police force somewhere, but my brother tells me (as much as he can) all the time how stupid criminals are. It's his opinion that there is some truth to the phrase of "criminal mind", as there seems to be some correlation between heinous acts against others and believing they'll never be caught. FWIW

If it is the guy, I hope there is enough evidence so that he can be convicted. It's been a long time.

As a criminal defense attorney this Wetterling business is pretty astonishing. I know they felt they were close a few years ago, but nothing came to fruition. If I had to guess what ultimately happened is what happens with a lot of my clients on child porn cases. They are typically unsophisticated computer users using some sort of filing sharing network like FrostWire or LimeWire or Torrent to get the images. Every JPEG on the internet is attributed a 32 character alpha-numeric code, when child porn is identified that code is uploaded in the data base for the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children. Most often in our neck of the woods, it's ICE (immigration and customs enforcement) that has the time and resources to track the flagged images and identify the IP address that it's coming from, but not where it's going to. What typically happens is that these guys, mostly in their late 40s early 50s, forget to turn the file sharing component off (or most likely don't even know it exists), and then ICE, FBI or local law enforcement can trace the IP address. Which is why they typically get charged federally with "distribution." It's not that they intend to share it, it's that they are looking for it but don't know that they are also sharing all of their own files.

You can imagine what happens after that. Search warrants, forensic analysis of the hard drive, the whole nine. What makes this case so bizarre is that this guy has literal photo albums and VHS tapes dating back to the 1980s

Maybe that's how he stayed uncaught (alleged, yada, yada).  Perhaps he only recently went digital.  He's the kiddie porn equivalent of a vinyl LP collector.

Our younger readers might not get the importance of the Wetterling case to people that lived in the area at that time and have followed it forever. Sort of like the JFK assassination, wanting to know the whole truth.

Maybe the evidence is there finally.

I'll never forget that chilly, crisp October morning walking from Flynntown to catch a bus to CSB for an 8 am class.  I recall it being cold on the bus and noticed that even though it was a cool morning some of the windows on the bus were open.  By the time the bus reached the walking bridge over I-94 I thought it was strange I could hear helicopters all over the place.  My roommate from the previous year had worked at the Tom Thumb the night before and was actually was one of the last people to see Jacob.  I believe he was the person that rented the boys their movies.

Esme Murphy (WCCO TV/Radio) reported on the old neighbor tonight that the "person of interest" had enough child porn on his property to put him away for life.  Maybe they'll find something linking him to Jacob's disappearance.
