Hey "sand PUSSY-cat" why are the Tommies Classless? Besides what I just typed😄?

Not sure he's saying anything directly about the players.  Maybe more towards the calls in the game.  Like an onside kick when you're up by 50.  Or a fake punt on 4th and long when also up by a lot.  Just my guess.

AO

I've seen St. Thomas beat St. John's a number of times, but never like this.

Wonder if we'll see a UWW/St. John's in the first round..Then winner goes to St. Thomas?
that will work too then   CLASS  UWW/SJU  beats classless tom's and UWW/SJU heads to the pacific northwest. ;D

A team that has had more kids on the AFCA Good Works Team than just about any other school ever, the players volunteer at St. Jude's and Habitat for Humanity and our starting RB is in the seminary. Just classless.

Bench - the social norms are pretty clear on defining why UST is classless.  They took a picture on the other teams logo. Why? Classlessness.

(Though a closer look at the logo suggests there might be a #1 in it.  That might have been confused for the type of hubris that makes great locker room bulletin board material.  Which we know can lead to impassioned play on Saturday's.  But that's all speculation. I'd rely on the social norms defined by .....)

Their Good Works Team run predates Caruso.

Oh I have no doubt. I think the Allstate/St. Thomas conspiracy goes back to O'Shaughnessy's Globe Oil days.

(Ron: Not serious, and actually accusations of "classlessness" are about my least-favorite sports insult, whether it's directed at the Tommies in college or the Clippers in the NBA. Although being an AFCA Truther sounds sort of fun.)

24 - 20, Johnnies.

I suspect you're probably pretty close on that one, Oz.

Game day forecast is sunny with mid 40s for temps and winds out of the South at 10 mph.  A brisk day for sure.

I see where you are going, but let me push back a little if I may.

I don't believe that the calls you mentioned are meant to embarrass the other team or be disrespectful. Instead, I usually view them as opportunities for UST to get game time reps on tape. In other words, you can never fully replicate in practice the intensity or pressure that naturally comes with executing those plays in an actual game. In these situations UST has nothing to lose and they get to see where their weaknesses are and correct them prior to being in a situation where the game is on the line. How do you know how you will respond if you've never been in the situation before? In my opinion, it builds the player's confidence that they can execute these plays in the future because they are prepared and know what they need to do to get the job done.

Yeah, I'd agree...I plan to attend, so I hope Bethel can keep it entertaining, anyway, though I don't think they have the horses to pull out the victory.  The defense is good but not great this year, and is further punished by an offense that hasn't been super consistent against the better teams, so the defense ends up on the field on short rest too often. I also don't know the status of Tusler, who will be important for the offense.

Those are also perfect opportunities to get something on tape which future coaches have to prepare for. I know that St. John's knows how to do this -- anyone want to go back and review the game tape from the 2003 Crown game where they threw everything, including the kitchen sink (my apologies to Kitchen Sink), on tape for playoff opponents?

Offensively, it was probably UST's worst game. I think about 3 trips to the redzone they came up empty. Penalties, penalties and more penalties. 13 for 157 yards. So many plays negated by a holding. Also, I think there were 3 penalties by UST on kickoffs that went out of the back of the endzone, I honestly have no idea how or why you'd get a penalty in that situation, the ball is clearly not going to be returned.

You get a penalty because it's against the rules. The rule book doesn't say it's only a penalty if the kickoff is returned, it's a penalty regardless, same as on a fair catch on a punt return. If blockers thought they wouldn't be flagged in that situation, that could lead to a dangerous condition such as clipping or personal fouls. It's similar to a holding call that is completely away from the play, it's still holding and a penalty.
Not trying to speak for USTB, but I took the comment as bonehead penalties rather than no calls.

What Wartnight said. Not debating whether or not they deserved a penalty. Just don't know how you go about getting one when a nice 25mph wind is behind you and you know the ball isn't going to be returned. Especially a personal foul.

Makes sense now. If you would have said 'commit a penalty' instead of 'get a penalty' then I would have understood better.

So that's what Tracy Claeys was doing against Michigan.Run the most blatantly obvious play to get it on film, striking fear in the heart of Urban Meyer for Saturday.... ::)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I'm surprised two other schools ranked higher. It's impossible to compete against Autum in Minnesota.

(I planted a sugar maple in the front yard about 16 years ago.  It's a one tree crusade to introduce color and beauty.)

As a Michigander, I take issue with that!  And I'd be willing to bet that 'leaf peepers' crowd into New England about 10 times the rate of Minnesota. :o

I know that autumn in Minnesota is glorious, but you are hardly unique.
