So I'm in Chicago at the moment, staying at 76 E Monroe Street near the Art Institute. Any recommendations on a good place for lunch nearby?

Chez Quis,  use the name Froman.

The Sausage King of Chicago?
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Well, I got clearance to go to the Saturday's game with the stipulation that I have to bring our 4-year old along.  With the forecast temps around freezing, I hope he can handle it. :(
Will there be any Finsleft Kool-Aid?
Duff, this won't be kool-aid weather, I was thinking maybe hot chocolate? Might just be a flask in my ice armor bibs...

Rev- go to The Gage, 24 S. Michigan (it's a short walk from you). Excellent whiskey selection, solid menu. www.thegagechicago.com Warning: it's a little swanky, but you know where my allegiances lie...that's the way we "roll"! Or the obvious, Billy Goat Tavern-430 N. Michigan Ave (Lower Michigan), www.billygoattavern.com

How long are you in for? I'd be happy to buy you a couple if your schedule permits...PM me.

Or if not there then Chez Paul.  You may need to smooth-talk your way to a table.

http://www.startribune.com/university-of-north-dakota-to-announce-new-nickname-today/351376421/

The Mighty, Fighting Hawks. I like it.

As a UND Law graduate and season ticket holder in 3 sports, I had a voting stake, and I went with Roughriders. The criteria set forth was that the nickname had to be original and "unique to North Dakota." I couldn't think of anything less original than Hawks.

A lot of people (students) got hung up on two things 1) Red River High School in Grand Forks goes by "Roughriders;" and 2) there's a logo floating around on the internet of a hawk that incorporated the feathers from the Indian head UND formerly used. The obvious responses to that are 1) UND doesn't play Red River HS. They're a Division 1 college athletics program; and 2) the aforementioned hawk logo won't be used, and has been said as such by many people in the administration.

The problem with Hawks (besides the fact that it's yet another stupid bird), is that it was the overwhelming favorite by the students, and it was much easier for them to vote as they have an UND email address which made it super simple for them. Alums had to register and go through a series of complicated steps online that people my dad's age, quite frankly, didn't have the computer skills or patience for. I think if you had to ask anyone that really values the history and tradition of our state that "Roughriders" would have been the obvious choice. Theodore Roosevelt coming back to ND to hand select his cowboy friends to accompany him to Cuba to fight the Spaniards when he was the Secretary of the Navy, and dubbing his Calvary the "Roughriders," and then taking San Juan Hill, has been legend around here for 100 years. We even have a musical in Medora about it. I was hiking through Teddy Roosevelt National Park in Medora yesterday as a matter of fact, I even ate a steak and had a few beers at the Little Missouri Saloon. I think if I could have brought a few thousand students with me deep into Wind Canyon they would've gotten on board. There's a reason the highest honor one can receive in ND is the "Roughrider Award."

Hawks is arbitrary, benign and just the obvious choice for the "safe space" generation. Sad, really.

Also, to the "original and unique to North Dakota" criteria levied by the nickname committee, I couldn't be more disappointed. Hawks should have never made it to the voting stage if that was indeed the criteria.

Just in Division 1 alone: University of Miami RedHawks (our own conference in hockey!), Iowa Hawkeyes, Kansas Jayhawks, Lehigh Mountain Hawks, University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks, Monmouth Hawks, UNC Wilmington Seahawks, St. Joseph's Hawks, Seattle University RedHawks, Southeast Missouri State Redhawks, University of Tennessee Martin Skyhawks, Wagner Seahawks, Hartford Hawks, UMass-Lowell River Hawks.

54 bird names in Division 1. Zero Roughriders. SMDH

Also put my two cents in the Grand Forks Herald for Roughriders before it was a finalist back in May: http://www.grandforksherald.com/opinion/letters/3740341-letter-und-would-be-only-rough-riders-central-grad-would-cheer

I thought Roughriders was by far the best name.  Too bad.

You forgot UWW Warhawks.  Whatever that is.

I'm thinking they are going to be hearing chants of "chicken hawks."

Will there be another issue in a few years with the "Fighting" aspect of the Fighting Hawks??  That's a little edgy for today's pc world.

Went to The Gage last night. Great place!

A few doors down, you'll find The Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, http://chicagoathletichotel.com/ you'd be well served to spend some time here. Specifically, check out the Game Room, main lobby and Cindy's rooftop lounge. Place is steeping in history and Cindy's has an excellent view of Millennium Park, Maggie Daley park, the lakefront, Grant Park, the Art Institute, museum campus, Adler Planetarium, Soldier Field, etc. Get there with some daylight left to take full advantage of the view.

Seems logical, unfortunately...I'm sure someone will take issue with it.

Grand Rapids (Oz - that was your HS, right?)  went from the Indians to the Thunderhawks...as USTBench pointed out, far too many birds.

Did that change happen while you were there Oz?  Was there much pushback, or did folks just grit their teeth and accept it since it was mandated for MN HS mascots?
