If both teams advance and St. Paul wins I do not see how anyone can use Tommies Suck for at least a decade.

Agreed, but we have to recognize that the Johnnie fascination with "Tommies Suck" has little to do with football. It's more a coping mechanism associated with rationalizing a perceived deficiency in placement within the Catholic social hierarchy. For many people in the region, UST is an aspiration. SJU has a fine tradition that should be valued. However, many Johnnies have a chip because it's not quite UST. This all makes sense when you look at it from the outside. By way of example, Rudy didn't really want to go to Holy Cross College...it was all about Notre Dame. It's the same thing a littler further northwest.

Wow...go to the Stagg Bowl (and lose) once in their program's history and they're getting compared to Notre Dame.

Took me awhile to get Rev's sense of humor, but his tongue is planted firmly in cheek. We're more EXACTLY like Georgetown or Boston College.

True... The more I think about it, St. John's is more like the Notre Dame of DIII. Rich historic football program with legendary coach(es), not always a national contender but right up there each year (more or less).

I've edited my last post...wouldn't want any Johnnies or their supporters calling me out for micro-aggression...

Let's not forget that most of us consider Oregon's uniform's tasteless and the Johnny crowd considers everything about STU, especially the coach, classless (similar to tasteless, especially if you dare to take pictures)!

So there's another point for the comparison.

For the record I think Mount Union closer resembles Alabama, while Ohio St is close to UWW.

Franklin/Wabash = Northern Ill/Bowling Green

Typically does really well in a weaker conference, but has a hard time competing against the top tier teams. Has the ability to reload each season with recruits in just their region.

Yeah, I was pretty much making historical comparisons, maybe linking some other similarities.

Art, I'd say Bethel is Stanford. Always good to very good, just hasn't gotten to that perennial powerhouse stage yet.

Mine was more simplistic - both Baptist schools with the same letters - BU.

I can live with a Stanford comparison.  :)
