Oh hell no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:(

New on the powerhouse scene, but can't get over the hump to win the big one. A lot of flash and $$$.

I think that's a good comparison.

Yeah, I was pretty much making historical comparisons, maybe linking some other similarities.

Art, I'd say Bethel is Stanford. Always good to very good, just hasn't gotten to that perennial powerhouse stage yet.
Stanford went to the Orange, Fiesta and 2 Rose bowls in the last 5 years.  Doesn't get much more perennial than that.  They probably are Stanford thanks to the comparison between the two bruising running games, but 2 semi-finals in a decade doesn't quite compare to Stanford's success.

Pacific Lutheran = Washington Huskies ?  A powerhouse years ago under a legendary coach...but struggling to get back.  :(

(...that's probably giving Don James a little too much credit...but you already assigned Nebraska)

Anyone here watching the new season of the TV Fargo?  I'm really enjoying it. The accents are largely awful, but the story is quite good and the characters engaging.  Mrs Oz enjoyed season one but I never watched past the second episode.  I'm finding this year much better.

Yeah, it's amazing.  The Mike Milligan character is awesome - though the first season was also pretty fantastic.  You should give it another try.

Best line so far was a few episodes ago:

Milligan: Met another cop from Minnesota yesterday, I liked him too.
Cop: We're a very friendly people.
Milligan: No, you're not. Not very friendly at all actually. But it's the way you're so polite about it; like you're doing me a favor.

That almost perfectly encapsulates Minnesota Nice.

Tough to compare bowl appearances in D1 to playoff runs in D3 though. Just not the same. Only elite programs in D3 consistently make it to the semi-finals. Both Stanford and Bethel have shown flashes of greatness, but haven't been able to stay there. Both are constantly solid programs.

I don't think the comparison is that far off. None of these are perfect...we're just having some fun.

You're insane for giving up on season 1, but....

I haven't watched a minute of season one, but started watching season two and am totally hooked. It's some really great entertainment. Don't watch much TV, but it is well done and I have literally watched some of it on the edge of my seat. OK then...

I'm hoping Santa brings me the season 1 DVD set. I can see some nice evenings in the fish house, watching that and playing the "OK then" drinking game.

Let's not forget that most of us consider Oregon's uniform's tasteless and the Johnny crowd considers everything about STU, especially the coach, classless (similar to tasteless, especially if you dare to take pictures)!

So there's another point for the comparison.
Mark Helfrich is not classless or tasteless!! And I have it on good authority that he does not bring his players out on the opponent's field for photo ops after wins. 8-)

Caruso=Neuheisel or as we like to call him Neuweasel ;)

Don't agree with this comparison. Urban Meyer pretty much abandoned his family when he was coaching Florida and worked himself to a point where he almost died. Ohio State is kind of his zen-like renaissance. Not sure how Caruso is flaky either. Harbaugh is a psycho and paranoid, but you can't argue with his results. I don't think Caruso goes to that extreme, he incorporates his own family into his team quite a bit, his wife makes treats for when they win, he always has his kids come down to the field, and has them at things like their selection show get together. I think comparing teams is easier. human beings are too nuanced.

I get that. :) I do think all of the hoopla about the uniforms is a bit ridiculous! Who cares what they wear? It is actually interesting from a marketing perspective that Oregon has been able to build a brand (if you will) based on ever changing uniforms. So much for consistency being key to brand recognition.

Big time FBS fans crack me up. You don't get to coach Oregon (or any Power 5 school) without having screwed over about 100 people, putting your family second and glad-handing the alumni base like a used car salesman or politician.

I'll incorporate the Kill to Brewster (or Lane Kiffin if that makes more sense) barometer

Kill was universally liked and lauded as a guy who "does things right." But you can't deny that coaching Big 10 football almost killed him and that he split on Northern Illinois as soon as the Big 10 called. On the other end of the spectrum is Brewster/Kiffin, all flash, no substance, glad handing alums and selling hope, screwing over recruits and other coaches and his own Athletic Department to take more prestigious jobs, failing upwards, just the worst, but not ALL that different than Kill.

I was indeed referring to Fasching as an assistant. Glad to hear Caruso is a family guy. A definite plus in my book.

Maybe we should think of the ever-changing uniforms as being their consistency.
