You know who was fast?  Ryan Hoag

Hoag is one of the few subjects that can unite us all on the MIAC boards (especially since there aren't any Gustie posters to disagree  ;D)

Any ideas on attendance for Saturday? I'm planning to attend and wondering how early I'll need to get there to get a decent spot.  Assuming it will be a good crowd but no where near the regular season game given it's Thanksgiving weekend.  Any recommendations?

It's a bummer it's the Thanksgiving weekend. If it wasn't for that, I'd expect huge numbers. I can't remember the figures, but the turnout for BU - UST in 2010 was pretty impressive for a playoff game. I'd expect SJU - UST to easily top it, if not for Turkey day and students being at home.

I was in attendance this weekend, and I was one of the people who mentioned the difference in speed. It wasn't meant as a slight, it was simply an observation. To me there is a noticeable difference in team speed between the Tommies, most of the other SCIAC teams, and Linfield all of whom I've seen.

St. Thomas is obviously a very good and well coached team, wasn't meant as a slight, just something that I noticed almost immediately while at the game. If they win this week, I am very interested to see how they match up with Linfield.

I see this weekend's contest as a game of Name-The-Improvements.  What has changed in the competing sides over the last two months since UST was clearly superior?

On the Johnnie side I see:

* Big improvement in Martin.  He's become very balanced and consistent, particularly in the last three games.  And his balance has led to offensive balance and a diverse core of reliability: Sura, Simon, and Bungham.

* Defensive secondary.  VOJ bemoaning "completely blown coverage" has also almost stopped in the last three weeks.  And now we're hearing more of the "Turnover to the Johnnies!" exclamations we are used to.

On the Tommie side I see:

* More of the same.  A dominant position that works to maintain it's level of excellence.  Same mix as before, only more seasoned.

So, the potential for a Johnnie upset in this match is all from Johnnie upside.  The question is: have the Johnnies caught up?

I think the answer is yes, the Johnnies have caught up.  I think Johnnie Magic will prevail at Summit.  Final score: 24 - 19 (the Tommies miss two two-point conversion attempts).

The SCIAC board is a wealth of treasures.  It seems that the Toms aren't looking just past this weekend, but next weekend as well.  They've already booked a seat at the semi-final table.

So how would you folks compare the 2010 Wildcats with the team of today? Back then UST ended their season with a 24-17 win, but of course it was a tough game.

Slow starts and all.

You probably should have qualified my post by noting the previous posts addressed a UST/Linfield tilt.

So what happens if (heaven forbid) Martin gets knocked out of the game early?

We have deceptive speed in the MIAC  :) With your Elliots and your Waldvogels and whatnot. They just sort of glide.

Anyway, fast or slow, 31 from La Verne got scorched multiple times.

Also, historically UST and SJU have matched up pretty well with Linfield. Don't remember there ever being a lopsided score.

TitanPride,

Don't know how accurate this will be, but I would expect possibly 8,000 or so. Not quite the 12K UST/SJU has gotten in St. Paul, but definitely over capacity. Looks to be mid 30s and sunny on Saturday, so, could get a decent crowd if people are sick of looking at their relatives for the 3rd day in a row. My advice would be to drive by the night or day before to see if UST brought in temporary bleachers, if they did behind at least one end zone I'm guessing you'll find a spot, if not, get there an hour early.

If you do attend, know that you can't bring beer into the plaza. Found this out the hard way this weekend...

Not sure what it has to do with lopsided scores. 31 got put in somee tough situations when ULV went to a zero coverage look. Doesn't really say much. I beat players a lot faster than me in the same situations during my career. UST had some great play design and timely play calls for sure.

You can't bring beer into the plaza in a conventional beer can, but come on people, let's use some creativity!

Look how the Johnnies respond to an expression of concern about the potential for tragedy befalling a young man. Overlooks the concern and moves on to belittling. Steerage class dude, steerage class...
