OzJohnnie

I would like to take a moment's break from our Johnnie/Tommie kumbuya love-in to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving.

For only the second time in the 23 years I've lived in Oz we won't be having a Thanksgiving dinner with all with the works (and I'm already feeling the loss even though mealtime isn't for another 10 hours).  We've got a function at the #1's and #2's high school and #3 is in a theatre production tonight which we'll just be dropping her off at the backstage door for (but we're not entirely horrible as we'll see the show the night before we head back to the States this next weekend for Christmas).

So I hope you all have a great time with your families and that the players all stay focussed on the task at hand, delivering a great contest (and a little Johnnie Magic to boot).

We wouldn't want the Bennies feeling ignored this week. Based on this (stomach-turning) article out of the UK, they too can engage in bread-making activities in Collegeville. I'll just leave this here:

I'm not aware of any rules one way or the other. I know that the Cortaca Jug has changed hands in the playoffs.

Incorrect. The 1988 playoff game is not counted in the Cortaca Jug series record

Alright. The game was listed on Ithaca's Cortaca page. It's denoted as being a playoff game but there's nothing that says the Jug wasn't on the line.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thankful for being a Johnnie.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Thankful for being a Johnnie.

A double thankful for being a Johnnie and a (Mitchell) South Dakota native!

Go Johnnies, and Go Jacks this weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving!

In the Front Page story about tomorrow's games, all "gurus" picked the Tommies, with the consensus opinion being that since the Tommies won the initial contest in Collegeville, they see no reason for a different outcome in St Paul.

While not taking too much offense at that line of reasoning, how would they explain both the Bears and the Lions beating the Packers in Green Bay? Or more directly, the Tommies almost pulling off the upset against the Johnnies in 2003?

Let me give them a couple things to ponder. The Tommies might be the more complacent team, because of that earlier game. The Johnnies have improved significantly since that meeting. They are rivals, and weird things happen in rivalry games. Maybe the Johnnies just dropped a big "Deuce" in that first game, which was not indicative of their prowess. There was a big distraction from the outside prior to that game. The recent outcomes have not been all that favorable to the home team.  Ponder away.

How soon we forget, this was the "Dark Ages" of UST football, the pre-Caruso era. Anything prior to 2008 does not count. A vastly inferior 2003 UST bringng the Johnnies to the brink on a muddy field in front of a large crowd. This doesn't mean anything. After all, rivalry games are played on paper with the gurus calling the shots. Besides,if GC were coaching,he would have gone for 2 and that would have been the end of the story #RollToms.......   ;)
