To leave a coordinator gig for a DIII school when you know the school you're currently at is going DI also tells me a few things outside of the fact that he just wanted a HC gig. 1) He and his wife probably wanted to be in the Twin Cities; 2) He's a DIII guy and likes being a DIII coach.

Forgot about one more plus. Recruiting. At UST you can drive 30 minutes in any direction and watch 5 recruits play, probably in the same game. UND, USD, SDSU, NDSU and UNI, you're on the road. A LOT. My buddy is the WR coach at UND and as soon as the season is done he is in Wisconsin watching basketball games and meeting with recruits for weeks at a time. Schweigert has to hit every corner of ND and Minnesota with his National Championship ring to build up alumni support and also meet with his prized prospects because he knows Klieman will be there the next day wearing 4 National Championship rings.

As long as his priorities remain, in order, faith, family, and football, I'm not sure there's a better job in the country for GC.

According to Jimmy V, possibly the Rutgers freshmen basketball team in the early 70s or the Green Bay PACKAHS

Bench, that's one of my favorite Jimmy V stories. For those unfamiliar, forward to the 16:24 mark. https://youtu.be/uezVYG4ba1E?t=985

Of the 12 Freshman who were in Salem, how many are still with the team? Punter/WR Fitzsimmons was also there as a Sophomore (medical redshirt).

QuoteThat brotherhood was tightened by a two-week trip to Italy in the spring. The program had previously played in Canada in the spring of 2009 and 2012, and followed those trips with breakthrough seasons.

ATB is part of the roster but doesn't suit up anymore, he does stats and contributes with coaching in practice I believe. I heard he had some heart related medical issues so his football career is done, but I think he'd be a 5th year senior.

Going back a bit - Did Brenton Braddock graduate last year? He was listed as a Junior last year. I'm pretty sure he was sitting a few rows behind me at the Wabash game.

It was really dusty when we heard this news at Plum's at the beginning of the season. It's a cruel twist of fate that it's a heart-related issue, b/c the world needs more hearts like ATB's.

I think Braddock sat out a year because of an injury and opted to not come back for a 5th season. It's tough, UST is expensive. I know of a few guys who would have liked to play that 4th season but financially it wasn't in the cards.

SAGATAG YOU'RE SO BUSTED:

From USD Coyote Message Board from SagatagSam (didn't even change his name, the dirty pot stirrer):

"Full disclosure: I'm a Saint John's grad (undergrad) and a lifelong Johnnie Football fan. So, saying that I have hated Caruso in his capacity as the St. Thomas head coach is a tremendous understatement.

There are things about his personality that irk me (which I will explain if asked), but I'll say one thing: he's an exceptional football coach.

I'm not trying to sell him to USD because I want him to stop having the Tommies win football games. It's quite the opposite, actually, he has made the Johnnie-Tommie rivalry better by making the game not be a joke (SJU won 12 in a row from 1998-2009).

However, if you want to win football games, he's a guy that is going to help--A BUNCH."

And to think I let you lend me your cow cup and lost it.

SJU is a shell of its former self. What would John say? Or maybe this sort of behavior is what they've been teaching up in Collegeville all along...if you can't win on the field, find less honorable ways to get the job done. Sad, really sad...

Retired Old Rat

Just got off the phone with John.  After I told him about Sag's post on the South Dakota discussion board he is really PO'd.  Want's to know why Sag didn't start a rumor about him being in the running for the job.  As we all know, he was once offered the head job at USD.

Sag, if you get a call from area code 320 I wouldn't answer it.

He also mentioned how touched he was by Sam Riddle showing up this morning to help with the annual SJU football Christmas Coat's for Tommies drive.

I just noticed this on HSCoach's signature line:

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible- but pissing everyone off, is a piece of cake.

I like it and think it is very appropriate for this board.

I'm unsure why people are even speculating about GC going to USD.  After GC puts up a 150 on Linfield and hangs at least 125 on the UWW/UMU winner (battle for 2nd place), he'll briefly fly to the Vatican for canonization prior to taking his new NFL head coach job.

A tradition unrivaled...

Sad day for New York politics.  Jimmy "The Rent is too Damn High" McMillan announced his retirement from politics today.

I must admit that this video from last year does have a Borg-like quality...

I'll counter with this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEFdxPwQVu8

That's a great video! I didn't realize community colleges could afford such high production values.   ;)
