Can't cheer for the University that has dominated the MIAC in "all-sports" for 20-25+ years.

You all may feel proud of yourselves but understand you have a huge advantage in the game!

??? If the Tommie's win, they are going to spend the entire offseason vacationing in your head.  So much space.

Congratulations to Sam Sura for his second place finish for the Gagliardi Trophy.  Joe Callahan from Wesley was the winner.  Story on d3football.com

First time any of us remembers the second-place finisher being announced. Hmm. :)

Maybe it was extra close?  The committee was so impressed with Sam they felt it appropriate.  Why the need to diminish the accomplishment of a great kid and football player?

Stick it where the sun don't shine.

Quotes from Sam in the St. Cloud Times:

"Just being here was really a great experience," Sura said. "To be able to come down to Salem and see all the facilities was really nice. And to be up there with the other finalists was a big honor."

"This was a nice way to cap my career," Sura said. "I can think of one obvious way that would have been even better. And that would have been to be down here with the rest of my team (playing for a national title). But I'm only here because of my teammates and coaches. Without all of those guys, none of this would have been possible.

"So I was representing them as well."

Sam resides atop the list of the nicest, most humble, classy, gracious and enjoyable players in D3.

But it was a really close vote. I'm sure there hasn't been a close vote before. And the J Club thought he was a really nice and extraordinary candidate.

Look, Sam Sura seemed like a great guy and was instrumental to their success the last few years. But, it sure is a riot to see the Johnnies get defensive over the strange second place announcement by calling it an attack on Sam. Maybe it's "built in advantages" of the J Club. The horror!
So they did actually announce a 2nd place? I took this all as a fabrication by the Johnnie fans and saw Pat's comments as confirmation of that. But maybe I read it wrong. Do you have a link?

I admit it, UST is blest with advantages like a better university, better location, better endowment, better alumni, better students, and better athletes.

Welcome all you Tommie-come-lately's. Your team is the the one with silver helmets and the S and T shield.

I just checked over on the d3football.com homepage and see that the expert picks are out. Tommies have been highlighting that post every week for the past four but are strangely silent on this set of expert picks. I wonder why.

Almost everyone picked Mount, as they should - UST is the clear underdog - but they all (except the Mount Rube) picked close games, which is nice.

Hey Faunch did you watch the last time UST played MU? You must not because you look like an ass hat when you say things like:
"Any chance we see a Dick Play...A Behind the Ass Pass tomorrow evening?  No this isn't Carleton!  Anybody with real balls would run that same crap against MU!"

I will refresh your memory; UST scored their only touchdown of the day on a fake FG. Gasp! OMG! Are you serious? Would that mean that UST had "real balls" to run a fake FG/XP in a championship game against MU? Yes, yes it does. Now enjoy your crow and keep your mouth shut.

A school's booster club sponsors an award. Said school has a player make the finals but not win and they also announce the player finished second. Time to move on. The Heisman releases full voting, so there is precedent for this type of information to be shared for similar awards.

Full disclosure, I'm a board member of the J-Club and to my knowledge there was no policy this year, or any previous year, on announcing the order of finish for the finalists. Is it possible the J-Club, "the booster organization that supports Johnnie athletics. Varsity, club and intramural sports benefit from the money raised by the J-Club.", wanted to give one of our own a little extra recognition? Not only do I not see a problem with it, I don't think we'd be fulfilling our mission if we didn't.

For the guy who has spent a significant amount of time with conspiracy theory ramblings on a "secret" trip to Winnipeg I expected a little more creativity on how this could have went down with your J Club

Mount Rube?

Jeff is a sportswriter for the Alliance Review and has personally been to the past 10 Stagg Bowl games.  He's probably seen more Mount Union Games in the past decade than anyone posting on these boards.

Hardly a Rube.
