I hope Bench enjoys a victory, I want to see the drunk post to end all drunk posts from CT, but I want the rest of you miserable curs to wallow in agony. It's a shame all three cant happen.

Almost everyone picked Mount, as they should - UST is the clear underdog - but they all (except the Mount Rube) picked close games, which is nice.

Mount Rube?

Jeff is a sportswriter for the Alliance Review and has personally been to the past 10 Stagg Bowl games.  He's probably seen more Mount Union Games in the past decade than anyone posting on these boards.

Hardly a Rube.

Rube is part of the local vernacular from a sports talk station, KFAN. To us it means "fan" more than illiterate hillbilly. Most of us would consider ourselves "Vikings rubes" or "Twins rubes."

OK, gotcha.  Jeff is a pretty knowledgeable guy and a great supporter of Mount Union Athletics.

Also implies a fair bit of homerism and perhaps less objective opinions.

A school's booster club sponsors an award. Said school has a player make the finals but not win and they also announce the player finished second. Time to move on. The Heisman releases full voting, so there is precedent for this type of information to be shared for similar awards.

Full disclosure, I'm a board member of the J-Club and to my knowledge there was no policy this year, or any previous year, on announcing the order of finish for the finalists. Is it possible the J-Club, "the booster organization that supports Johnnie athletics. Varsity, club and intramural sports benefit from the money raised by the J-Club.", wanted to give one of our own a little extra recognition? Not only do I not see a problem with it, I don't think we'd be fulfilling our mission if we didn't.

For the guy who has spent a significant amount of time with conspiracy theory ramblings on a "secret" trip to Winnipeg I expected a little more creativity on how this could have went down with your J Club

Is it fair to speculate that Sura might have won if he could have done anything in either of the games vs UST?

One of the two people that picked the Tommies is a former Tommie player.

Not to mention brother of current player, and broadcaster for UST's WCCO play-by-play.

Also a "rube"

Might even find it endearing

I had St. Thomas winning it all initially so I'll ride with them til the end (although I picked against them last week in the OAC Pick 'em so maybe I'm not reliable  ;D). To be honest I was equally impressed with both teams last week, but it seems like the general consensus (as stated) is for MUC.

So they did actually announce a 2nd place? I took this all as a fabrication by the Johnnie fans and saw Pat's comments as confirmation of that. But maybe I read it wrong. Do you have a link?

Not that it matters but how did they know he was the second leading vote getter? Is this something they announced at the ceremony? I can't really find the vote count online.

I'll reserve the right to make light of the 2nd place release but Sura was an excellent candidate and total gamer. I watched a lot of Sam Sura football games and don't know that I ever saw a negative yardage run. Often, it would look like a great stuff on him and then you look at the chains and he got five yards. And you are left trying to figure out how. Always moving his legs and falling forward.
He embodied what you might expect from a tough kid from SSP. Seems like a great kid on to bigger and better things as well.

Not that familiar with the Gagliardi award so have a couple of questions.  Does anyone know if two players from the same conference have ever been in the final four candidates before?  Also, what is it about the criteria that would result in the winners being predominantly offensive QB's, RB's and WR's?  Here is a breakdown of the positions of the past 23 winners:  12 QB's, 5 RB's, 4 WR's, 1 OL, 1 SS.
