I can't remember if was posted here so I'll mention it just to be sure. The final d3football.com top 25 poll is out. UST finished #2 and the Johnnies finished #10.  GAC picked up five points and neither CON nor BU got any voting love.

Well, I took the family to see a high school basketball game but unfortunately Rapids was beaten pretty thoroughly by Esko.

It was pretty good to hear the school song is exactly that same as it was back when we were still the Indians.  Until Mrs Oz pointed out that the tune was very similar to It's a Long Way to Tipperary.

It was also disappointing for the Oz girls that the pep band and cheerleaders weren't at the game either. They were hoping to see High School Musical in the flesh.

But I enjoyed the night. It's funny how not much changes. Other than a new basketball stadium the night was almost exactly like it was the last time I saw a game in high school.

Both my junior and senior basketball seasons ended in that gym vs. your Thuhderhawks!  My junior year they had Eric Webb, who was probably the best or second best player I've ever gone against...incredible dribbler, passer, and great shooting range for a young player.  They were typically nothing special in basketball (Dusty Rychart years excluded)...after Webb went through, he really spurred on a greater interest in hoops at that school and they've typically been very good ever since with multiple state tourney trips.

If the history of The University of Minnesota Athletic Department shows us one thing, don't be surprised if Tracy Claeys ends up with a contract extension for winning The Quick Lane Bowl  :'(
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I wonder if there is rioting in Dinkytown after this program defining victory.

Murray Warmath began coaching the Gophers in 1954. The Gophers won the Rose Bowl in 1962. Warmth's career winning percentage was .526

Cal Stoll took over in 1972 he went 39-39 for a .500 winning percentage.

Gopher fans would wait for the savior of Gopher football to arrive. In 1997 Glen Mason came to town and went 64-57 for a .535 winning percentage. Glen Mason is the coach that all others will be measured against in the era from 1954 to present, sad but true. Glen Mason has been the winningest Gopher's football coach since Bernie Bierman, who began coaching in 1932. Bernie had a record of 93-35-6 in 16 seasons for a .727 winning percentage.

Gopher fans would shoot sparks out of their collective butts for a .727 winning percentage, heck they would shoot sparks out of their butts to be 6-6 and not "back into" a lower tier bowl game. I don't know if that will happen in my lifetime.

Good thing the Gophers have two hockey teams, a women's basketball team and a volleyball team or Gopher fans would be suicidal.

Augsburg is on break, so there would likely be less kids available to throw bottles at cops.   ;D

Don't forget rocks. Bottles and rocks. If I remember right a cop was hit in the toe with a rock. I hope he survived.

Due to my affection for the underdog role :P I also love the Gophers.

This is reality:

Michigan: 11 National Titles

Ohio State: 8 National Titles

Minnesota: 7 National Titles

Iowa: 1 National Title

Wisconsin: 0 National Titles

Polls are like a$$#)les. everybody has at least one.

It's interesting that the Johnnies only loss(es) came to the #2 team, UST , who moved from #4 to #2 based on their postseason. It seems then that everyone else is measured against those two. UWW, and UWO seem to get the benefit of the doubt, though we don't know how they would stack up against SJU. They both have some good victories, so a case can be made for their ranking. It gets a little trickier when you get to teams like UMHB, Thomas More, Wesley, Wabash, Johns Hopkins, Wheaton and SJU. There probably isn't much difference in that group, and if they played a round robin, I would wager that the Johnnies would be above .500, yet they are ranked below all those teams. In the end, unless you have the Walnut and Bronze, "what difference does it make."

Good thing the Gophers have two one hockey teams, a women's basketball team and a volleyball team or Gopher fans would be suicidal.

The Gopher Men's hockey team is looking pretty rough this year. They aren't winning very much, and every home game I've seen on TV shows a lot of empty seats--so many empty seats that you can see most of the "M" behind the benches.

Well, if you ever plan on switching allegiances, I would be glad to show you the Palace on the Prairie, the REA, where nary a seat is ever empty.

They are pretty young and raw. They have some talented kids, but probably won't do much this year. Last I saw, though, they were in 1st place in the Big 10. They will probably improve over the course of the year, but could be in the mix next year at the earliest.

I think they might have increased the prices a bit too much.  $50-$70 for single game and $850-$1050 for season tickets compared to the Fighting Hawks $25-$50 for single game and $420 season tickets.

I have never been up to REA and have heard nothing but great things. My wife, an Indiana native, has not experienced college hockey, and we would like to make it up to Grand Forks at some point to take in a Fighting Sio--err, I mean, Hawks game.
