The gophers don't lose recruiting battles with NDSU or Northern Iowa when they offer scholarships, but they don't often get walk-ons who have good FCS offers.
We have heard from other Gopher coaches in the past but I haven't heard Claeys say he is going to "build a wall" around the state of Minnesota and get every recruit that they (Gophers) want to play at Minnesota.
AO, I know your cousin was a key player for NDSU so the Gophers never offered a scholarship?
How do the Gophers start winning the recruiting battles against other FBS schools? The talent drain (not saying Minnesota is a football hotbed) going to other FBS schools is maddening - in football as well as basketball.

Wonder what Clayes thinks of Bollinger getting the Cretin job? Wisconsin starting QB. While they are a shell of the dominant program they used to be there are still D1 talents in the program every year.
I follow the Gopher recruiting stuff and I think Claeys has a different philosophy than Kill. Not saying he would let in state kids go but you don't hear him talk about a wall around the state. He has connections in the south and they recruit that area hard. I think a kid at Cretin who is talented enough to play D1 should feel the draw to play for the Gophers and Bollinger can say whatever he wants. Plus Claeys just hired a former Badger O Line coach to be OL coach at the U, Bart Miller.

+k to the first page on this first day of the new year. Even the Tommies got the karma love.

Appreciate the +k.  I will keep the karma flowing as well.

Dang. Almost all the bowl games have been blowouts. Today in particular. The Big 10 has had mixed results, mostly mixed poorly.

Not for a Michigan fan. :)  (And after all Minnesota survived a mid-level MAC team to finish 6-7! ::))  It's true that the Big 10 was blown out in their two highest profile games, but that can happen when they send their fourth best team to the Rose Bowl.  OSU/Notre Dame was a game where Michigan fans wish there was a way for them both to lose, but I can live with OSU puttin' the hammer to 'em.

For a change, the Big Ten had a pretty good record in Bowl games this year

badgerwarhawk

Five wins (Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan and Ohio State), 4 losses (Northwestern, Michigan State, Indiana and Iowa) with Penn State on tap today.   That includes wins by Minnesota and Nebraska who under normal circumstances with only five wins would not have been bowl eligible.  I don't see PSU beating Georgia so I'm expecting the Big 10 to finish at .500.  But even that is improvement from the norm.

All three five win teams selected (San Jose State was the third) won their games.

I don't know anything about Trey Anderson's status.  My days of having direct connections to anyone on campus who would be in the know are in the past.  Since he got hurt in November, and I've always heard 6-9 months for ACL surgery recovery, if he had November or December surgery August would be in the 8 or 9 month window so who knows.

I was at the Auggie/Bethel final game and noticed that Trey was on the side lines without crutches and looked like he was walking without a limp. So maybe his injury wasn't too serious and he will be ready to go next year.

57 this would qualify as a Craft Beer- Leinenkkugel's Snowdrift Vanilla Porter. I picked up a 6-pack last week to alternate in during Bowl Mania. Quite tasty.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Closed circuit to Duffman: What is it about QBs from Texas, Bowl games and getting arrested on the Riverwalk  ???

Making a Murder (Netflix).

Anybody watch this yet?  Would love to hear some thoughts and theories.  Very sad that a 16/17 year old w/ an IQ of 60-70 was railroaded into a murder confession / conviction.
