Reading more it seems like this is all an over reaction or at least an 18 year old too late reaction

From http://www.wissports.net/news_article/show/598062

"Now, let's look at the WIAA's Sportsmanship Guidelines which caused the offending tweet in the first place, and have begun to catch national attention.

For one thing, it is important to note that these aren't new, despite what several journalists have falsely indicated. The Sportsmanship Guidelines have been around for years, with the WIAA's Sportsmanship Committee founded in 1997. Currently, the committee consists of 11 members, including school administrators, an officials representative, and a member of WACPC (Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches).

The Sportsmanship Guidelines were developed and approved by the member schools. Every member school receives the guidelines as part of their tournament information. It is up to the member schools to enforce them as they see fit.

Every state association has similar guidelines, though not all go into specific detail about "inappropriate sportsmanship" cheers as the WIAA guide does. However, all identify taunting, disrespectful, and demeaning cheers or chants as "inappropriate sportsmanship"."

So, for the 40-50-60 year-old somethings who are posting here...

Would you rather have on your team today's 16-17-18 year-olds, who apparently can't handle the pressure and therefore whose self esteem will be crushed?

Or would you rather have as your teammates the 30-40-50-60 somethings, those our ages, who decided the 16-17-18s can't handle this?

I express my view of that air ball through non-confrontational down twinkles.

Take that, you best-effort-making-free-throw-missing Rhinelander Hodag!

Maybe basketball, football, hockey, etc. need to go the route of chess, parents/spectators hang in the hallway while the action is going on in the gym/cafeteria.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one that reads this that will know what a Hodag is without looking it up. I've been among the mythical creatures as they live in the forest areas around Rhinelander. They devour white bulldogs as a delicacy.

Stafford and Culpepper have/had a lot of help. As an example, during Culpepper's season he had Randy Moss and Cris Carter as his receivers, Robert Smith as his running back, and an OL that consisted of Matt Birk, Todd Steussie, Korey Stringer, David Dixon, and Corbin Lacina. That's a lot of Pro Bowlers and Hall of Fame caliber players. Moss had 1,400 yards and 15 TDs; Carter had 1,200 yards and 9 TDs; and Smith exploded with almost 1,900 yards from scrimmage and 10 TDs. Needless to say, Culpepper had a lot of help. And I do not think any of us would argue that Culpepper had the "it" factor. And we do not even need to talk about Stafford. He has Megatron!  :)

To your point about whether Teddy has "it" or not, I do not think we have seen enough to render a judgment. I think the stats are more of a reflection of the system that Teddy is in rather than what he is capable of. Instead of playing to Teddy's strengths, it appears that Norv was trying to find a way to incorporate AP into his system. I don't think AP has the skills necessary (i.e. catching the ball out of the backfield, route running, etc.) to do well in Norv's system. What the system requires is a Darren Sproles type of athlete, which is why McKinnon looked better than AP at times this season. As we witnessed during the Seattle game, AP was sitting on the sideline while Teddy (out of the shotgun which is what he prefers) drove the Vikings down the field and got us in field goal range to win the game. And then Gary Anderson's son shanks the field goal! But I digress.

To your first question, I would say yes. I think you could point to several variables that contributed to their 11-5 season, none of which are a direct result of AP being back on the field this year. As RoyalsFan pointed out, the defense made a huge leap under Zimmer's second season. They allowed the fifth-fewest points in the NFL and on average they gave up 3 fewer points this season compared to last season. The Vikings lost 4 games last year by 3 points or less, several of those games the defense lost during the final drive.

To your second question, the answer is, it depends. Blake Bortes? Maybe. Derek Carr? I think so. Jimmy Garoppolo? Anyone's guess. Johnny Manziel? Heck no! When you look at the other second-year QBs in Teddy's class, it is impossible to project how they would have performed in the Viking's system. Each QB has unique skill sets that may or may not work with Norv's system. While theoretically, the answer to your question is, "yes", the issue is really the fact that the Viking's system relegates Teddy to a game manager. I think they need to let him be a little more aggressive.

We still do not know if Teddy as the "it" or not, because he has not been given the opportunity to sink or swim. I think it is too soon to write him off and start looking for a new QB until we at least give him the opportunity to succeed.

And I'm not saying Teddy will be the next Manning or Brady, but I do think he has the potential to be as good as a Phillip Rivers or Matt Ryan. I think as Vikings fans we are a bit envious of some of the other great QBs in the league and dang it, we want one too! But there are only a handful of those guys and you can still win a lot of games and even Super Bowls with a good QB under center.

It's amazing how Tommie fans, in general, and TT specifically, become smarter when not talking about their Tommies. Nice analysis.

Mr. Ypsi

^^^Well, except for Stafford getting a lot of help.  It is true that he has had Megatron (Calvin Johnson, in case that nickname is more local than I thought) and recently Golden Tate, but he rarely has a reliable RB and his offensive line makes him probably the most physically abused QB in the NFL.  I am truly amazed that he has not spent most of his time on IR - he is one TOUGH dude.

There is a reason that the Lions have ONE postseason win in the last 60 years.  (Hint: it ain't Stafford. ::))

While Megatron is still one of the best, there is widespread speculation (fanned partly by him) that he will retire.  Just like Barry Sanders (who also retired at the top of his game at 30), I wouldn't blame him in the least.  With the 'protection' the Lions give their future HoFers, retiring young means they just might still be able to walk when they are fifty.  (I realize that both Barry and Calvin play positions where 'protection' is not primarily the responsibility of the OL, but having the QB constantly hurried certainly doesn't improve things for them.  If Stafford plays to a ripe old age I'd say he is either the toughest or craziest QB ever. :P)

Woohoo!  Go Johnnies!

EDIT: And for our sensitive Wisconsinite friends, here are some WIAA compliant jazz hands.

TT, I appreciate the objectivity and effort you've put into your analysis and it would be irresistibly persuasive but for this one rejoinder: Vikings Suck!

My emotions overwhelm my reason on this question. I remain stubbornly and irrationally unpersuadable. My apologies.

Per Frank, he's already enrolled at SJU:  Former Rosemount QB Transfers to SJU

I'll be very interested to see how this pans out.  He'll definitely be a strong contender.  It'll be interesting to see if this will ignite another Mitch Hendricks-type transfer.  I'm thrilled to have another candidate to succeed Martin, but I have to feel for those guys that were in line to replace him--most notably Gunnar Anderson.
