It's not that 50 million are more important, it's that 30 million more are affected! That's not self-importance. It's like the Electoral College. It's not that people in Ohio are more important than people in North Dakota. It's that there's more at stake with the results in that particular part of the nation, so it gets more attention.

And the 3-4 days is just the nature of news and snowstorms. We can see them coming, so we can talk about them. And it's fun to speculate, and wonder if major transportation/media/economic/national government centers are going to be shut down! Plus, preparing people for what could happen isn't a bad thing, is it? Grocery stores surely appreciate it, at least. And anyone who saw the Little House on the Prairie where Miss Beadle sent the kids to their death in a snowstorm surely wishes those folks would have had three or four days of warning.

Besides, part of Midwesterners love seeing this much coverage because the only thing they enjoy more than complaining about their own weather is ridiculing those in other parts of the country who supposedly aren't tough enough to deal with it.  :)

If you're still in SA at the end of Feb, sfury, then you can catch the opening round of the Super 12 Rugby. Good viewing.

And England is touring South Africa in the cricket. Theres a five-day test match underway right now. Boring as hell, I say, but one day of cricket is interesting enough.

Will be gone by then. I asked my brothers-in-law to take me to the test cricket when it was going on in Cape Town but they declined because it was so ungodly hot (Minnesotans could have taken the heat, I actually said!). It was like 100, or whatever the celsius equivalent is. I wanted to go for the experience, but yeah, on TV, it's not the most exciting thing. We went and stayed at a lodge where members of the Barmy Army were staying and getting drunk. Bros-in-law have talked about going to the one-day stuff, they say it's much more fun. And I know on TV it is; last year I actually knew what was going on during some World event, which South Africa basically lost on the equivalent of a bottom of the ninth grand slam with two outs, after leading by 3. Think it was New Zealand who broke South Africa's heart in that one. Jerks.

Yes, it was New Zealand that beat SA in the semi-final. NZ played out of their skin that tournament (but Australia brought them crashing back to earth hard in the final).  It should have been a SA v Aus final.

I think it's Japanese for delicious and filling. :)

It is yummy! It is very popular/common in Hawaii. Spam musubi is a favorite there, but I prefer tofu!

I got back from walking the dog at the beach and caught the second half of the 2013 Preliminary Final between Geelong and Hawthorn replaying on FoxFooty.

I've posted a link before but this is a phenomenal game from first bounce to the final siren.  The last quarter is insanely tense with each touch seeming like life or death.

It just dawned on me that no one has mentioned anything about Caruso being named D3 football coach of the year. Let me be the first on here to congratulate Caruso.

Is it because STU fans figured it was a foregone conclusion and didn't think it was worth mentioning here? I thought for sure SJU fans would have something to say about it or maybe it is their way of dissing Caruso by ignoring his accomplishment.  ;)

Just saw a video of an east coast new broadcast.  The broadcaster was on remote reporting the storm when a shirtless dude comes walking by.  The broadcaster asks, "Aren't you cold?"  The dude replies, "No, I'm from Wisconsin."   They got a good laugh out of it.  I was surprised he wasn't wearing shorts.  :D

It was certainly mentioned on the OAC board.  Some were outraged that Vince Kehres did not get the award, others were nonchalant about it.

I didn't even know it had been awarded. Was there an article at d3football.com?  I must have missed it.

Congratulations on the award, Glenn. Imagine how much sweeter it would be if you didnt need compliments pulled out of your rivals.

No, I don't think you missed it on d3football.com since I can't find anything about it there either - strange. You would think a site dedicated to DIII football would have something about the coach of the year award. I saw it in the local paper a couple of weeks ago.

I heard a rumor that SJU also had a Big Ten QB lined up to transfer, is/was there any truth to that?

Done and dusted. He's already transferred to SJU and will be eligible for spring practice and the trip to Canadia. I can't remember his name offhand but he was #17 at Penn State.

Sorry I've been out of the loop so long, usually not much off-season news to report with on the Knights. How many years of eligibility does he have left? Perra at UST has three, would be interesting to see a few years of Tommie-Johnnie games with two D1 QB's at the helm for each school

Did a little internet searched and pulled up the kid's bio: http://www.gopsusports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/jackson_erdmann_975787.html

Two fun facts:
Kid's dad played at GAC
Kid was born in Northfield

I believe Jackson Erdmann was redshirted this year at Penn State and should have a full 4 years at SJU. The QB spot is wide open and there are a couple kids from this years roster that will get plenty of reps in spring as well as Canada trip. Being enrolled now gives Erdmann time to get to know everyone and the time this spring will be valuable.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!
