Congratulations to St. Olaf for making a best of list!!

Number 4 for best campus food!! ;D
Do the dorms factor into the happiness factor at Dayton  ???

I experienced the St. Olaf dining facilities as a senior ('07) when we competed in a track meet there. I can attest that they are one of the best.

As for Dayton, its a horrible place full of awful people. Go Xavier!
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

So UST just launched its new branding initiative aimed at "clearly reflecting" and "perfectly describing" the university. Everything/everyone at UST is "All for the Common Good."TM The new tagline will be used throughout the strategic planning process and as part of a major fundraising campaign. I wonder how opposing teams fit into UST's definition of the common good...

Their slogan can be "As soon as you walk on campus someone will hand you a beer" and I will still be ignoring the phone call I get at 8pm every Sunday night from 651-962-5000.

UST has taken up the mantle of evangelism from the earliest Church leaders?  Inspirational and unexpected.

I skip those calls too. Even though I've been a pretty active donor since leaving UST, there's something about the  weekend evening calls that rubs me the wrong way.

Speaking of beverages on campus, I've spent time at a few research universities since leaving UST and after nearly every seminar, symposium, book launch, etc. there's a gratis wine/beer/canapés reception. I don't remember this happening much at UST. Is it common for MIAC schools (with the obvious exceptions) to NOT offer drinks after events?

In Hawthorn developments key player, the multi-talented Jarryd Roughead (who unfortunately looks like his name), will miss the first 8-10 games of the season after being scheduled for PCL surgery. He played last year with the injury, taking extra recovery days during the week when the tendon flared up, but this pre-season saw the injury inflame and not recover. So off to the scalpel he goes.

Last year Roughead missed a few weeks after getting a melanoma carved out of his face.  Needless to say, the jokes on the football variety shows were biting.

Also less interesting is that the club's chairman has retired, replaced by another chairman.

Roughead's hard shoulder to Syndey's Dan Hannebury was one of the highlights of the 2014 Grand Final. Shown at :26 and a nice slo-mo replay at 1:12 that really shows him laying the point of his shoulder right into Hannebury's unprotected ribs. It took a tough dude to get up from that and keep playing.

D1 and D2 signing and D3 "non-signing" info from Frank R:

Looks like a lot of guys going to play at NAIA schools in ND. Really wish Mayville St., Jamestown, Valley City St., Dickinson St., Waldorf, Presentation, Dakota St., considered DIII. Jamestown and Presentation probably fit the academic profile a little more closely and wouldn't be a bad fit for the UMAC. Just weird that Mayville, DSU and VCSU are all battling budget issues and continue to play in the vast NAIA with their scholarship headaches.

FWIW, we finished Making a Murderer and it seemed to both of us that there were a lot of unasked questions that the videographers left out, intentionally or not.

There's snakes in the woodpile, that's for sure. Or using another metaphor, can anyone say rail roaded?

From what was presented, I am definitely uncertain as to whether either of the defendants were guilty beyond a reasonable doubt - because I have lots of reasonable doubts. But hindsight is almost always 20/20. The flip side is, because the officers involved (at least from what was presented) didn't seem to follow up on other leads, who else could have done it? Not enough information.

And thanx to the many that mentioned this series in the past couple of weeks - I know it must seem to some of you that I live in a cave and don't get out much, but I never would have looked into it without the prodding from you all.

Check out Peaky Blinders on Netflix....Outstanding!!!
Hint...you might want to watch it with subtitles.

Fury, any book signings scheduled?

Nothing to report yet, but hoping to get to Minnesota for something.

Mr.MIAC

Here's the new University of St. Thomas Alma Mater, just in case you want to sing along at future games:

Through these arches pass, class by hopeful class,
Those who share a vision strong and true.

We ourselves transformed, and our world reborn,
By the things we think and say and do.

Now we stand, side by side, in our hope and our pride,
To declare our thanks anew.

Hearts and voices raised, in a song of praise:
"Dear St. Thomas, blessings be to you."

"Alma mater, blessings be to you."
