Looks like the Johnnies might have pick up a pass rusher from Fort Lauderdale.

There's some show that Mrs Oz has watched once or twice in fascination. Coupon Hoarders or something. People buy $1300 worth of groceries for $0.37.
Wonder if Dad can find a coupon to help with the SJU tuition.

I finished The Trial in the train this morning, 57, and all I can say is 'huh?'  I didn't get it. K is such an unsympathetic character that I just found myself wishing for him to get it and it couldn't happen soon enough. I suppose there are many people that trod through life, bobbing on fate like a cork on the ocean but I don't understand it.

I did find it interesting that the social rules which protected him in normal life made him unable to challenge the trial in anyway. An impolite "Bugger off!" Was that he needed to escape.  Weird.

Mr.MIAC

Check out this recent article from the BBC. It looks like the SJU motto should be changed to: We're small, but still emotionally stable.

This coming week TCM is presenting Orson Welles' film of The Trial with Anthony Perkins as Josef K.

sfury

I wrote a story for Vice Sports on someone familiar to folks around these parts: John Gagliardi. I've written thousands of words on him for free over the years, but it was nice to get paid to write about him. Obviously familiar ground to Johnnies and non-Johnnies, but there is a new, relevant hook: The Ivy League just announced it was banning tackling conference-wide in practices starting next season. (not that I needed an excuse to write about John, but that's a good one).

Good job as usual, sfury.

A thought just popped into my head. Assume this no-contact takes off now that a whole big-school conference has adopted it. I wonder if Gagliardi acolytes might start getting calls from places they haven't been called from before.

Do you remember that Seinfeld episode where Kramer got a big Novocain injection and was mistaken for being mentally handicapped?  Well that's me. I've just come out if the dentist after get a tooth cleaned out and my left side is completely numb and uncontrollable from above my eye to under my jawline.  He used extra vials, apparently.

About 10 years ago I had 1/4 of a molar shear off when chewing some crusty bread in Sweden. It didn't hurt at all, having remarkably missed the nerves, so when I returned to Oz my dentist just put a giant filling on it and called it done. Well, on Saturday evening the tooth started to hurt a little bit, by Sunday it was an 8 and on Monday and Tuesday it had easily turned all the way up to 11.  Wednesday the top of the thermometer had burst and the pain was no longer measurable. On Thursday I had peace; the tooth had died.

Like a good Minnesotan I had toughed it out through the worst and didn't call the dentist until the suffering was done.

I received my invitation in the mail today for the groundbreaking of Gagliardi Field ----> http://www.csbsju.edu/forward/college-of-arts-and-sciences/place/gagliardi-field-and-seasonal-dome

I got one.  I thought maybe I was a VIP or something, but if you got one, they obviously sent them out to everyone!
