I am far from a "Tommy" supporter, but we haven't heard how much UST actually contributed.  I suspect it was nearly all participants' [parents'] money, plus private supporters.  Such trips usually get minimal support from schools.

NOT that that will keep schools from bragging about the trip (especially recruiters). 8-)

Now, Oz, as an outsider I try to stay out of Johnny/Tommy feuds, but Old Auggie's comment just seemed unfair.  I doubt that much (if any) UST money went into the Italy trip, though (even if paid for entirely by players [i.e., parents of players :P] and/or private donors), I have no doubt that UST recruiters will play it to the hilt (wouldn't any college?).

Welcome to life in 2016. :o

There are parts of my brain that would like to return to other years.  Yes, I am feeling old some days. ::)

Woooo!  I just saw the most skillful, high-speed, high-pressure quarter of footy that must have ever been played. Hawthorn are playing the Western Bulldogs (coached by Luke Beverage, former Hawthorn assistant) and they are both in the same game style. It's a low scoring, high tension affair and Hawthorn lead 16-2 at the first break.

EDIT: It opened up in that second quarter. Crazy back and forth from one end of the field to the other. Both defences are tight and rebounding spectacularly. Hawks just hung on and lead 35-29 at the half.

EDIT II: The Bulldogs played like thier lives depended on it and it showed on the scoreboard. They lead 68-49. The Hawks will need a spectacular last quarter to take this game.

EDIT III: WHAT A GAAAAAAAME!!!!!  The Hawks came back to win 93-90. There were seven lead changes in the final quarter. This was the best game of football I've seen outside of the playoffs. For those one or two that like watching a game I'll keep my eyes open for it getting posted to YouTube. It is sure to be posted soon. A classic.

No one has loaded the whole game yet, but here are the official six minute highlights. I still felt intense watching that last quarter's footage. High-tension stuff.

Did they do a similar poster for the Canada trip? If so, I imagine it was in French Canadian.

Well, considering wrestling was dropped in 2000 when all of our sports were on a shoe-string budget and the Italy trip was in 2015 I guess I fail to see the correlation.

UST's landscape, physically and financially has changed pretty dramatically in the last 15 years. Wrestling was dropped well before the "Opening Doors" campaign when we all shared an absolute dump of an athletic facility. Men's soccer and women's hockey barely survived as well.

Yeah it was a poor idea on my part to connect UST dropping wrestling to the trip to Italy. I had just been reading up on the circumstances that lead to UST dropping wrestling and it just did not sound very kind or even believable. I still don't believe what I read and I won't repeat it.

Just to be clear: I took a gratuitous, unjustified, inaccurate and totally awesome cheapshot at UST regarding Italy and wrestling.  I apologize for nothing.

No, it was not related to fungi.
