I'm glad you shared that, Rube.

I've known Dean since I was about 15, as a teacher and a coach, and I can honestly say that he was one of the most wonderful people I've ever encountered.  The involvement that he and Kathy fostered with his students and athletes is amazing, and the longevity of those relationships is a testament to the care he had for those that he worked with.  The upbeat attitude that he and Kathy always had amazes me.  Dean went through some tough times with his health, but he was the master of enjoying life and always smiling and laughing despite those obstacles.  The world lost a truly amazing man yesterday, and while I knew it was coming, that doesn't make it any easier for those of us that were lucky enough to call Dean a friend.   :'(

A tradition unrivaled...

That YouTube video is way over the top.  Very U$T-esque.

I wasn't sure which school he was going to until I saw that video.  Then everything was clear.

Surprisingly, it's SJU!

He counted 14 reps of 225. I counted zero.

Quite a bitter contest in Brisbane where the Lions are hosting the Gold Coast Suns. The Suns' Steven May will be missing a few weeks for this hit on Stefen Martin. May flattened Martin when Martin didn't have possession and May left his feet to make the hit.

Jeeeeeezus, now I'm watching Adelaide v Sydney in Adelaide and there will be another three blokes knocked out in this game the way it's going. Brutal. Maybe the umpires had a mid-week meeting and decided to put the whistles away. Frickin' insane on the field.

Wow, the game just finished and that was the best game of football for the year in the fourth round. Maybe the best game of the last 10 years. Insanely hard, fast and skilled. It was spectacular.

Adelaide play Hawthorn at the MCG this coming Friday night. Mrs Oz wants us to go to a friend's house that night. Not gonna happen.

Much the same way all 200 kids on SJU's roster have expectations of significant PT, because as we know, college football is all about feelings.

Looks like they hit 4 of the top 8 or so big school teams last year. East Ridge, Maple
Grove, Wayzata, and Prior Lake all have multiples joining the Tommies. Many were 1st team all Confernce guys at big time programs.
Has to be the first time in many years not to have one kid from Totino.

Yeah, I was also surprised that there were no kids from Eden Prairie. Last year they had nine kids on the roster from EP, so they usually do pretty well out there. Aside from that, looks like a strong class. The outstate kids look solid too. There are a couple of guys in there that could start as freshman. Time will tell.

I saw this on the twitter and thought some of you would enjoy it...I found it very interesting and entertaining even though I have absolutely no interest in running as recreation - Deadspin article about Dick Beardsley that includes a reference to several MIAC schools, including a great shout out to UST!

Thanks for the share. The author's husband, Dennis Barker, was the longtime head XC/T&F coach at Augsburg. A few years ago he stepped down to focus exclusively on coaching Team USA MN, the professional distance running team based in the Twin Cities.

Well, considering wrestling was dropped in 2000 when all of our sports were on a shoe-string budget and the Italy trip was in 2015 I guess I fail to see the correlation.

UST's landscape, physically and financially has changed pretty dramatically in the last 15 years. Wrestling was dropped well before the "Opening Doors" campaign when we all shared an absolute dump of an athletic facility. Men's soccer and women's hockey barely survived as well.
Speaking of cutting sports, we haven't got your take on the Hawks cutting baseball and golf.  I'm sure it would be embarrassing to eliminate the stipends they planned to start paying next year, but if it saves two sports why wouldn't you?  Do any of the other big sky schools offer the stipends?  The stipends aren't going to make them competitive with NDSU in football, and that really shouldn't be the immediate goal for that program.

Frank wrote an amazing tribute to Dean Taylor.  Although I never had the honor of knowing Dean...Godspeed to a great coach and an even better man.

Flyers show the world what a no class bunch of goons they really are. Their fans also display amazing boorishness. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest.

The general rule at sporting events is that you can't give fans anything to throw, ask Chuck Knoblauch. Just try to go to a Twins game or similar Major League game and keep the cap on your bottle of pop or water, not happening. That's for the folks that actually buy something. Now some Flyers marketing guru decides to give everyone something to throw? Pure genius.
