Years ago I attended a BADGER/Gopher football game played in the Humphrey Dome.  There were two items given away that day, balsa wood airplanes (airline company) and miniature footballs (bank).  It didn't take long for people to assemble the balsa wood airplanes and start sailing them from the grandstand and the footballs too.  They were constantly picking them up.  I don't know how many airplanes and footballs they picked up that day but I don't think there were very many people who took theirs home.  The Gophers won and I can remember that when they were holding the axe in front of a large contingency of BADGER fans there must have been a hundred footballs thrown at them.   I think they may have had to empty the stadium to eject those who threw one, the other or both.

Flyers show the world what a no class bunch of goons they really are. Their fans also display amazing boorishness. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest.

Video?

They were rubber bracelets that lit up for the introductions.

That ain't Minnesota nice, that's for sure.

What they needed was the announcer to give the equivalent of the Hansen treatment: "I'm listing to the f*****g song!"

The Suns player, Steven May, who laid out the Lions player last week was suspended for five games. His statement as he came out of the tribunal hearing was unusual for his clear acceptance of responsibility and his regret. More of this would be nice (and less head hunting, of course):

"I got a fair hearing - I got my five weeks," he said.

"Obviously, I'm really disappointed with my actions.

"I'm happy Stef's okay and he looks like playing this week, but I've let down my teammates, the members, supporters.

"Over the next five weeks, I will do everything I can to help out around the club and get myself right to play."

The introduction, I might add, was to honor their recently deceased owner.  SO MUCH CLASS

Just heard about this today on the MIAC website, and found a decent article about it.

Good for him!  Hopefully he makes the most of the opportunity!

Dang, I am missing the game between Hawthorn and Adelaide tonight.  Mrs Oz says I do have to go to one of our closest friend's 50th birthday party.

But it will be a good clash.  Adelaide are ranked the top offense and fifth best defense.  The Hawks are ranked #2 in both.  Clash of the Titans type stuff.

There better be good food at this shindig tonight.

Tv was on!  Bonus night.  Even the womenfolk were gathered around the flatscreen for a spectacular game. This season has been crazy with high scoring, close, hard games of football. Hawthorn won again, 112-109, coming back from 15 points down with only 5:35 to play, kicking the winning goal with only 18 seconds to play. This Hawks team has spectacular composure, never panicking and never giving in. A true marvel to watch.  I think they must have paid some royalties to use Johnnie Magic (tm) because the ability to rally from desperate positions this year has been extraordinary.

I'm back from spending some time in the islands. Funny story, we were in the hotel beach side bar for happy hour our second day & I was wearing a SJU "rat T-shirt" and a 3 generation family gathering of New Yorkers were near by. When they saw "St. John's" they began yelling and raising their glasses. I went over to talk to them. It was clear early on they were fans of The Red Storm and had never heard of The Johnnies. We had some laughs and another round of drinks.

I do think I successfully recruited them to watch webcast of Johnnies football because The Red Storm doesn't have a football program... 8-)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

105 on vacation.  I'd sit and get pickled in a place like this.  I'd drink enough rum and gin & tonics to preserve Lenin's remains.

Bonus link, the frenetic final five minutes of last night's game. High tension stuff.
