But all my friends are here. In the off season we like to think of this as a general board  plus whatever other topics come up.

I understand.  I sometimes do the same with what I will always call 'CCIW Chat' (the CCIW men's basketball board), which can be counted on to be fairly active all twelve months of the year.

But if you can encourage your fellow posters to ALSO migrate to the baseball boards for that particular topic, you could help resuscitate a dying board.  (A further impetus: the WIAC baseball board is rather active - you gonna let those cheeseheads show you up?! :o)

I survived another Stearn County Wedding. This time in Mrs. Duffman's old stomping grounds. The wedding in Elrosa and the reception/dance at the  Brooten Pavilion. I visited briefly with #12 from The Sweet Season. Good times  8-)

I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Steve Schmitz (father of Sammy Schmitz), yesterday at a softball tournament in Lakeville.  His dad is an umpire and assigns and oversees a number of leagues and tournaments.  He also carries in his car a three ring binders of photos from the 2016 Masters.  It was really a treat to look at the photos he took.  He's a very proud father.

Two great guys - Sammy & dad, Steve!  Steve was our daughter's first hockey coach and his daughter (Sammy's sister) and our daughter played together several seasons for Farmington girls hockey!

You know you married the right woman when:

I've been feeling a bit off the last few days so as I walked out the door to work Mrs Oz asked me how I felt. "Yeah, ok. Thanks for asking," I said. To which she replied, "Tanks fer nuttin, Danny!"

My heart melted.

So Pep  is planning in mid-July to take a solo cross-country three-week trip from Saxonville to the west coast and back with the itinerary including stops in:
Bicknell, IN
Lawrence, KS
Tulsa, OK
Austin, TX
Roswell, NM (Carlsbad Caverns)
Phoenix, AZ
L.A.
Yosemite National Park
Pendleton, OR
Bozeman, MT
Mount Rushmore, SD
St. Paul/Minneapolis, MN
Lac du Flambeau, WI
and back to Alfred, hopefully within three weeks!!!

The trip will serve as somewhat of a re-enactment (albeit a very different itinerary) of a family cross-country campiing trip Pep took back in 1966 that lasted three weeks and was such a memorable experience that Pep's siblings still talk fondly of our travels. Pep has purchased a number of accessories in order to turn his PT Cruiser into an RV or a one-man mini-house on wheels and is looking to set up camp when he's not staying with friends.

Pep enjoys visiting D3 stadiums...given Pep's tentative itinerary, are there any D3 venues that are "must see"?
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

During your trip, you won't experience the game day atmosphere but the photo kind of gives you an idea.

An interesting read in the Trib today:

QuoteHamline AD Jason Verdugo said Wisconsin-Superior's recent move from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference prompted him to do an analysis of the benefits of the switch, which he estimates would mean 55 more victories a year across all sports. Verdugo said he was only being "inquisitive," but added that winning helps in attracting prospective students and "keeping kids once they get on campus. Certainly, you want to have an environment that's very positive and very good and makes their experience worthwhile."
Do we get Mac too if the Pipers move?  Those two seem like a package deal.

I found this quote funny.  A little dig at UST's academics?  :D

QuoteMacalester AD Kim Chandler said that her school has "different drivers here, different value sets to be true to ourself. The academic component here plays a significant role for us."

A tradition unrivaled...

Hey now -

No one cranks out more overqualified barista's than the Macalester Scots do each year. Where else can you find a vaguely named cornerstone building on campus called the "Institute for Global Citizenship"

I'm thinking this move might help SJU put a dent in some of those numbers.

ALPERS '82 BECOMES SJU ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AS STOCK ACCEPTS NEW POSITION IN INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT http://www.gojohnnies.com/news/2016/5/24/general-alpers-82-becomes-sju-athletic-director-as-stock-accepts-new-position-in-institutional-advancement.aspx

Interesting news. Don't know much about Mr. Stock, but he seems to have navigated the waters of some difficult coaching transitions very effectively. Reflecting back on it now I think Fasching came with the least fanfare, but so far has been proven to be a very good hire.

I am wondering what the transition to the next AD will look like for UST. It has be sometime soon with Mr. Fritz. The assoc AD's are too green and focused on specific areas. Maybe a head coach, but there is a lot more work associated with the job these days, so I would say that is less likely than it used to be.
