Rushed for 114 yards on 9 carries, and returned a punt for a TD.

Tom Chambers was named the MVP of the 1987 NBA All-Star Game too.

Go Gusties?!?  That's more rare around here than faunch's big catch. Welcome. Stay a while. :)

How about a "Johnnie Smokefest?" I only ask because you're entering one.

Well, my son will be attending Gustavus this fall and playing football and track.  He was heavily recruited by all of the MIAC schools and in the end it was a choice between Gustavus and St. John's.  He just felt more comfortable at Gustavus and so a Gustie he will be.  I think he made a good choice for him.

Good for him, and please ignore Reverend.  It's more of an Anti-U$T Smokefest than a Johnnie Smokefest.

Great choice! I have family who went to Gustavus and had a wonderful experience...good people, lovely campus, the Nobel Conference, etc.

PS: On second thought, given the two options, going Gustie was an obvious choice. The Tommie envy up in Collegeville is palpable. No need to play second fiddle...   ;)

Congrats to you and your son! Welcome to this thing and I hope you add plenty of Gustie perspective to this board.

Thanks, and probably not too much perspective as I don't expect my son to get much playing time as a Freshman.  I will say that going through the recruiting process was a lot of fun.  Every Saturday last fall my son and I would catch a college game and get the treatment.  Our travels took us through many of the Northern Sun D2 schools as well as the D3 schools of the MIAC.  We had the chance to meet many fine coaches and players, as well as visit some very nice facilities.  It was also a time where my son could meet up with some former teammates that are playing in college.  At the end of the process he was seriously considering Gustavus, St. Johns, St. Thomas, St. Olaf, and Macalester; all fine schools and all with interesting things to recommend them.  As for Tommie envy, darn near every college/university in the country could have Tommie envy for their locker room.  It's much nicer than many D1 schools we visited.

Did you see any handholding on campus? Did they tell you about the F.A.M.I.L.Y.?
